Preview of Limerick FC V Derry City FC.
This Friday night March 12th Limerick FC play their first home game of the season, and what a game it promises to be, when title favourites Derry City come to town. Derrys’ opening game last weekend was attended by over 3,500 people in the Brandywell and a very large attendance is expected at Jackman Park in Limerick this Friday night. Both teams play exciting, attacking football so a free flowing is expected. Pat Scully expects his side to be more than a match for their much vaunted opponents and if Limerick FC can find the bit of luck that eluded them last week then a win for the Super Blues is certainly on the cards. Limerick FC will also welcome back Club Captain Pat Purcell from a preseason knock and should be at Full strength for the visit of the Candystripes. Gates open at 6.45pm and Limerick FC are strongly urging people to come to Jackman Park early. The game kicks off at 7.45pm.

League of Ireland Division 1 – Mervue Utd 1 Limerick FC 1
Limerick FC began their season against Mervue United last weekend and had to settle for a share of the points as the Galway outfit stifled Pat Scullys side. Missed early opportunities came back to haunt Limerick FC last Friday night when a highly controversial goal for Mervue saw the contest end all square. A scramble in Limericks six yard box was bizarrely flagged by the referees assistant as having crossed the goal line. To the astonishment of everyone inside Terryland Park, the referee awarded a goal which even had the Mervue players bewildered.
Limerick FC took the lead when John Tierney raced on to a through ball by strike partner Shane Clarke and finished in style with a confident strike low into the corner of the net. This was no more than Limerick FC deserved as they totally dominated the opening half. Two top class saves by the Mervue netminder kept Limerick from running riot as Jeffrey Judge and Shane Clarke both went very close. A moment of magic by Clarke followed as the former Janesboro player showed some quick feet and unleashed a thunderous effort which came back off the woodwork. The final action of the first half saw some neat build up play between Judge and Shane Tracey which sent the latter bursting into the Mervue penalty area. Just as Tracey was about to pull the trigger he was hacked down by a Mervue United defender, the referee however waved away what looked like a blatant penalty.
The second half failed to produce as much goalmouth action with Shane Clarke and Robbie Kelleher both coming close to scoring Limericks second. While Pat Scully was disappointed with the result, he was very pleased with the performance and attitude of his young side.
