On Friday 17th June we welcomed our guests for Feile from Bodyke/O’Callaghan’s Mills in East Clare. After a short gathering in Anner Park Cloneen on Friday afternoon both St. Patricks and our guests went to Clerihan for our opening games in which both teams were victorious over Clerihan and their guests Wolfe Tones from Edgeworthstown Co. Longford. Both teams returned to the Sports and Social Club in Cloneen for a Table Quiz and then the players from Bodyke/O’Callaghan’s Mills went to their host families for the night in various parts of Drangan and Cloneen. Saturday morning saw both teams back in Anner Park trying to maintain their unbeaten record from Friday afternoon. Unfortunately for St. Patricks our guests proved the strongest and won by 3-8 to 0-3.
However both teams were in the Cup Quarter Finals and St. Patricks headed for Kickham Park in Thurles where victory looked to be on the cards but Burgess fought back to win by 4 points. Back in Anner Park Bodyke/O’Callaghan’s Mills defeated St. Marys of Carrick of Shannon Co. Leitrim to qualify for a semi final against Oylegate/Glenbrien from Co. Wexford in St. Mollerans pitch in Carrickbeg. This was a close game with the Clare boys snatching victory from the jaws of defeat. Back in Cloneen our ladies and a few gents were busy preparing a barbecue which was enjoyed by adults and players alike from both sides. Presentations were then made to our guests and they returned the compliment with souvenirs from East Clare for the various host families. However the Clare boys needed an early night and a good rest as they prepared for the final in Golden on Sunday at midday. The opposition was CRC from Carrig/Riverstown/Crinkle from just outside Birr in Co. Offally.
After a great battle CRC took the trophy to Offally.
We then bade farewell to our new friends from Clare as they headed back to a big welcome home in Bodyke and we headed for Semple Stadium to support Cathal Foley in the Primary Game and Tipperary in Intermediate and Senior Munster semi finals.
St. Patricks players in action in Feile were: Matt McCormack, Fergal Keane, James Lawless, Ryan Crannitch, Bob Barton, Luke Fox, Aidan Fitzgerald, Tommy O’Brien, Angus McDonald, Cian Crannitch, Jack Cuddihy, Keith Morrissey, Jamie Brett, Cathal Foley, Denis Clancy, Jack Cleere, Evan White, Bill Cuddihy, Eoin Fitzgerald, Brian O’Halloran, James Ryan.
