Minor league div 2 winners 2011
Last week we won both our league games to secure top spot with 1 game left and out of reach for all other teams. On Wednesday we hosted Garrycastle and we won 4.09 to 1.09 after a very good game where we played some great football. We led at half time by 5 points and went on to win by 9. Both teams played very attractive football with some great score taking. On Friday we travelled to Ballynacarrigy where we won 3.05 to 2.07. This time we trailed for most of the game and really did not play well until the last quarter. Many of the lads were togged out for the fourth night in a row and it looked to have taken its toll. We trailed by 8 points with 15 mins left. However we got going with a couple of points followed by 2 quick goals and late on when Shane Carroll scored from a rebounded penalty we went ahead by a point and defended sternly to hold on for the win. We started the same team on each evening based on performances in challenge games and at training. Subs used contributed very well also. Going forward we all have to make a tremendous effort to get on the team and to strengthen our panel for tough challenges that will come in the championship. The commitment and never say die attitude of these lads is a credit to them all and the enjoyment they bring for themselves and those involved is beneficial to all. Thanks to all parents who helped this year so far and to John Nolan, Sean Carroll and Aiden Maguire who assisted selectors. Well done to Eunan and Tommy for their work with these lads. A very special thanks to the players for their efforts. We had an enjoyable evening in Apache Pizza after Fridays game and thanks to Niall and his staff for their hospitality.

Div 7 league
On Thursday evening we defeated Ballycomyle at home 1.11 to 2.07. We fielded a mixture of experience with youth and rested our minors as much as possible. We played really determined football from start to finish. Our passing and long ball in to forwards paid off and we should really have won by more. There was some tough challenges flying in but to be fair to our young lads they got on with the game. Our backs were on top. Mark Leavy had a stormer at 3 and Conor Thompson, Cian Carthy each side of him were always in front. Vinny Connelly covered every blade of grass, Daragh Ayres played superbly at 11, Larry Donohue and David Reilly at midfield both played great. Fergal Fagan at 6 cleared most attacks and at 5 Ciaran Seery showed a lot of class. Wing forwards Kyle Gavin and Niall Doherty attacked all night. Full forward light weights of Kieran Carroll, Padraig Cochrane and AJ Murray later assisted by Sean Connelly won a lot of possession and really gave a great help to the younger lads. Kevin Maguire made a few good saves and kicked out to our advantage every time. Dylan Kennedy and Brendan Flynn both did well when introduced. K Smullen and S Carroll were rested despite the temptation to put them in. A good win after a good effort. Going well in this division. Keep up the effort and we could make the league final.
Under 12’s
The under 12s visited Shandonagh on Wednesday last for a Group A round 3 league fixture. Each club fielded 2 teams and both games produced some good passages of play with Na Dunta taking the overall result.
The next league match is scheduled for Wednesday 25th May at home to St. Michael’s (Castletown Finea / Ballycomoyle) at 7pm. A date for the diary is Saturday June 18th when we plan to bring the lads on a day trip – details to be confirmed at training.
