Greenfields Senior Squad travelled to Enniscorthy for the semi-final clash against Wexford H.C., on Saturday March 6th. Having previously beaten Galway, Omagh & Our lady’s Terenure hockey clubs, a tough match was anticipated against Wexford.

Irish Hockey Trophy Competition – Semi Final
Greenfields 1sts 1 – 0 Wexford (AET)
The match started at a very unsteady pace, & it was 15 minutes before Greenfields settled into their usual form. Wexford, enjoying the home advantage, pressed forward on numerous occasions, & won four penalty corners in the first half. None were converted, so the half-time score remained at nil all.
Greenfields came back stronger after the whistle. Within one minute they won a corner & were very unlucky not to score. They held 75% of the possession in the second half, but try as they might, the back-board evaded them. With the game remaining scoreless at full-time, it went to 15mins extra time, golden-goal.
A very tense game ensued, & although legs were tired, the players put in a supreme effort, which was rewarded with a goal from Trish Garrett less than two minutes from time.
There were scenes of great jubiliation as the relieved supporters poured onto the pitch. Coaches Bryan Madden & Paul McGettigan congratulated the squad for holding firm to the very end. Manager Imelda Brennan thanked all the supporters who travelled the long distance to Enniscorthy.
The celebrations then began in earnest!
