SENIORS
The huge gap between Division Two football and Senior Championship was quite apparent and Kingscourt were left regretting another disappointing start that saw them trail 0-5 to 0-0 after the first quarter. Despite that a great second quarter saw us lead 0-6 to 0-5 at halftime but failure to capitalise on any of the three great goal chances would prove very costly at the end.
Despite finishing third in the group, we still fall into a relegation play-off , and will play the losers of Mullahoran/Ballinagh in the first round of this. Therefore, it will mean players and management needing to quickly re-group and ensure relegation does not become a real prospect. With promotion not 100% guaranteed and relegation now needed to be fought off, it will be a fraught end to a season that had been going so well.
The Juniors will be looking for better success than the Seniors when they face a trip to Killygarry in the Junior B Championship quarter-finals on Wednesday evening. The winners of this will face Castlerahan in the semi’s.
Then on Sunday, they will face Knockbride at home at 1pm in their final league match where a victory is required to keep in the promotion chase.
U-16’s
Should they manage to overcome Gowna, they would have a home semi-final agaisnt either Ballyhaise or Cavan Gaels, but we’ll not worry about that one just yet!
The 13’s open their league campaign with a trip to Bailieboro tonight (Monday). Their next match will be at home to Crosserlough on Monday 24th.
