Over the last weekend Edenderry under 14 hurlers took part in the Feile Na nGael which was hosted by Offaly/Laois.
Edenderry hosted Warwickshire for the weekend, who they played in their first game on Friday. After the game, both Edenderry and Warwickshire travelled to Birr to take part in the opening ceremony and parade.
On Saturday morning Ballinamere/Durrow and Woodford Gaels (Cavan) travelled to Edenderry for the remaining games in the group.
The weekend’s activities were brought to a close on Saturday night where there was an underage disco and hot food for the players from both the Edenderry and Warwickshire panels. After the disco there were presentations from Edenderry to Warwickshire to mark the special occasion.

Edenderry’s first game in the 2009 Feile Na nGael was on Friday against Warwickshire who had travelled over to Ireland early that morning. After a very one sided game which Edenderry gave their best performance in the Feile Na nGael for both 2008 and 2009, they ran out easy winners by a massive 41 points.
Edenderry’s first score of the game was a point from Leslie Nolan after a period of dominance when Edenderry could have scored a few goals. Edenderry’s next score was a goal which was scored by full-forward David Moloney. Edenderry then scored a brilliant point from Oran Lawton, before David Moloney grabbed his second goal. Lee Hyland added a point when he kicked a marvellous point as he was about to be hooked. Lee then scored two goals in a row to give Edenderry a lead of 15 points. Edenderry midfielder Oran Lawton then scored his second point, before David Moloney completed his hat-trick of goals, when he was quickest to react to a breaking ball in the Warwickshire square. Oran Lawton then added another great point, before Mikey Kane and Craig Monaghan scored a goal apiece. Just before halftime Edenderry scored two more points, from Oran Lawton and Leslie Nolan to go in at halftime 28 points in front.

Shortly after the restart Kevin Beatty and Stephen Connolly were introduced for Mikey Kane and Bobby Walsh. The opening score of the half went to Edenderry’s Mikey McNeilis who scored a fine goal. Edenderry then made another switch with Peter McNamara replacing Oisin O’Neill at corner-back, before Edenderry hit Warwickshire with two more goals, both coming from Kevin Beatty. The first was an impressive flick from Kevin after a long Oran Lawton delivery into the Warwickshire area. Edenderry then made three more changes with Jack Kelly, Conor Farrell and Patrick Rickard replacing Lee Hyland, Jordan Hayes and Mark Abbott respectively. Oran Lawton and Conor Farrell then added Edenderry’s 11th and 12th goals of the match, before Alex Kenny and Ciaran Farrell came in for David Moloney and Dylan Maloney. Leslie Nolan then fired over a point after a great run, before Kevin Beatty grabbed his third goal, and completed his side’s second hat-trick of the game. Despite being completely dominated for the game, Warwickshire kept plugging away ’till the very end and were rewarded for their efforts with two late goals.
This was an impressive all-round team performance from Edenderry with a great spread of scorers, with five of the six starting forwards getting on the scoresheet. Scores also came from both midfielders, and two of the substitutes. While in defence, the goalie and the six backs played exceptionally well.

In Edenderry’s first game on Saturday morning they faced Woodford Gaels from Cavan who had defeated Ballinamere/Durrow on Friday evening. After a very difficult game for Edenderry, they ended up beaten on a scoreline of 7-07 to 2-01.
Woodford Gaels set themselves up for victory with a devastating first half performance which yielded six goals and two points, with no response from Edenderry. But the scoreline at halftime could have been so much worse for Edenderry, only for some last ditch defending from Dylan Maloney, Ross Mangan, Mark Abbott, and a superb block from full-back Bobby Walsh. While Edenderry goalie Aaron Holt made a couple of excellent saves.
Halftime, Edenderry 0-00 Woodford Gaels 6-02.
At the start of the second half Woodford Gaels scored three unanswered points, before Peter McNamara was introduced at corner-back in place of Robert O’Reilly. Shortly after that change Edenderry were on the scoreboard, when ace poacher David Moloney grabbed his fourth goal in two games. Matthew Beatty and Callum Roche were then brought into the action in place of Jordan Hayes and Conor Farrell. Woodford Gaels then scored a goal and two points, before Ciaran Farrell and Stephen Connolly came in for David Moloney and Bobby Walsh. Oran Lawton then scored a nice point for Edenderry, after good work from Matthew Beatty. Edenderry almost had their second goal when a low hard shot from Ciaran Farrell went narrowly wide. Jack Kelly was then brought on for Lee Hyland, before Matthew Beatty grabbed the last score of the game with a good goal.
Despite coming up against a very strong Woodford side, Edenderry kept going to the very end and they got their reward with two goals and a point.

Edenderry’s final game in the group against Ballinamere/Durrow would decide who would join Woodford Gaels in the semi-finals. Unfortunately Ballinamere/Durrow would prove to be too strong for Edenderry, as they advanced on a scoreline of 5-10 to 0-04.
Ballinamere/Durrow had a dream start to this match as they scored a goal and two points without reply. Lee Hyland opened Edenderry’s account with a brilliant point, after a very good pass from Jordan Hayes. Ballinamere/Durrow then added two points in a row, before Peter McNamara was introduced for Edenderry at corner back in place of Oisin O’Neill. Ballinamere/Durrow then scored their second goal after a great solo effort. Edenderry pulled back two points before halftime, Leslie Nolan added the first from a free awarded for a foul on Lee Hyland, and the second came from Oran Lawton after some great work from Ciaran Farrell.

At the start of the second half Ballinamere/Durrow put the game beyond doubt as they scored two goals and three points without response. Then Edenderry brought in Kevin Beatty in place of Ciaran Farrell, before Leslie Nolan scored a very good point for Edenderry’s opening score of the second half. Stephen Connolly and Daniel Kane were then introduced in place of Jordan Hayes and Robert O’Reilly. Ballinamere/Durrow finished out the game strongly, as they added a goal and three points without reply, to run out comfortable winners.
Despite losing their two games on the Saturday to Woodford Gaels and Ballinamere/Durrow, Edenderry can be very proud of their efforts over the entire weekend, as both of their victors went on to contest the final, which Ballinamere/Durrow ended up winning.
