Scoil Muire Banríon, Edenderry……2-09 St Patrick’s, Portarlington……………1-05 Last Thursday in O’Connor Park, the under 13 footballers of Scoil Muire Banríon completed the schools first three in a row of Cumann Na mBunscol titles, when they defeated a strong St Patrick’s side from Portarlington in the final on a scoreline of 2-09 to 1-05. With the aid of the stiff breeze in the first half Edenderry opened the scoring when Damian Sadowski kicked a great point after he played a one-two with David Moloney. Portarlington soon cancelled out that score with a very good point, but such was Edenderry’s dominance in the first half, that point proved to be Portarlington’s only score of the half. Edenderry then added two points, both from placed balls. The first was converted by Jordan Hayes which was awarded for a foul on Adam Mahon, and the second came from Adam Mahon after Damian Sadowski had been fouled. Then Edenderry stretched their lead out to five points when Adam Mahon raced past the last Portarlington defender, and fired an unstoppable shot to the top corner of the net. Adam then added another point, this time he sent over a great shot from long range. Edenderry captain Damian Sadowski then scored his second point, after brushing aside the challenges of three Portarlington defenders. Jordan Hayes kicked the last score of the first half, to give his side an eight point advantage at the break. Halftime, Edenderry 1-06 Portarlington 0-01. Despite playing against the breeze in the second half, Edenderry were first on the scoreboard as Jordan Hayes kicked his third point. Portarlington then scored their second point of the game, when they kicked a point from a free. Edenderry then scored their second goal of the game, when Eoin Farrell made a great run and gave a pinpoint pass to Cain Brereton who palmed the ball past the goalie. That goal was followed up with a pointed free from Jordan Hayes, which was awarded for a late tackle on Dylan Maloney. Portarlington then scored two points in a row both from frees, before the lively Callum Roche kicked a great point after a pass from Eoin Farrell. Edenderry then had their goalkeeper Andrew Moloney to thank as he advanced on a Portarlington forward to make a great save. From Edenderry’s clearance, Portarlington won possession and kicked a good point. At this stage Portarlington were bombarding the Edenderry goals, and yet again Andrew Moloney made a great save when he was at full stretch to tip the ball onto the crossbar. But from Portarlington’s next attack they finally beat Andrew with a very well taken shot. That score proved to be the last score of the game, as Edenderry ended up winners by seven points. Edenderry had some very good performances all over the field from Callum Roche, Andrew Moloney, Peter McNamara, Dylan Maloney, Jordan Hayes and Eoin Farrell. But on this special occasion of the school winning their third title in a row, a mention must go to four fantastic players who played a part in all three finals, and they are Damian Sadowski, Adam Mahon, Mark Abbott and David Moloney. Edenderry GAA would like to congratulate the entire panel, the school and the management of Paschal Walsh and John Kelliher on their great achievement. Team: Andrew Moloney; Conor Groome, Aaron Moules; Peter McNamara, Dylan Maloney, Mark Abbott; David Moloney, Damian Sadowski (0-2); Callum Roche (0-1), Cain Brereton (1-0), Adam Mahon (1-2); Jordan Hayes (0-4), Eoin Farrell.
