125 anniversary fun day

Sunday May 10th is the day allocated for the 125th celebration of the GAA. St. Mary’s are hosting a day of fun activities at the pitch for all ages. The day will commence with a mass for deceased members in St. Marys chapel at 10am. There will be a plaque unveiled at purgatory wall where the first meeting of St. Marys GAA club took place in 1928 over 80 years ago at 1pm. This will be followed by a parade of teams past and present to the club grounds lead by the 28th Infantry Battalion pipe band. On arrival at the grounds the 125 flag will be raised and a variety of skills competitions for the young and not so young will commence. There will also be a senior men’s league competition for the Johnny Patton memorial cup and the senior woman will play for the 125th anniversary cup. The day will finish with the presentation of prizes, burial of time capsule and an ecumenical service in the clubhouse. Make sure to come along and enjoy the day.

 

Programme of Events

10am: Mass in St. Mary’s Chapel Convoy for all deceased members of the club

 

1pm: Unveiling of plaque at Purgatory wall (Mannies carpark) – original site of first meeting of St. Mary’s GAA club committee in 1928

 

1.15pm: Parade of teams past and present from purgatory wall to club grounds led by the 28th Infantry Battalion Pipe band

 

1.45pm: Arrival at pitch and raising of the 125 flag and unveiling of plaque

 

2-4pm: Skills competitions for all age groups including penalty kick, puc fada, etc

 

2-4pm: Music and entertainment on stage provided by local artists

 

2pm: 125th Anniversary Cup, ladies semi-finals.

 

2.40pm: Johnny Patton Memorial Cup, men’s semi-finals

 

3.15-4.15pm: Skills competitions on pitch for adults

 

4.30pm: 125th Anniversary Cup, ladies final

 

5.10pm: Johnny Patton Memorial Cup, men’s final

 

6pm: Presentation of prizes and cups

 

6.15pm: Ecumenical service and time capsule
