2008/09 Season

November 7, 2018

The Senior team had a rough season finishing in last place in the Munster Senior League Premier Division. The non-appearance of new signings at the beginning of the season and after Christmas hard a major effect on the outcome of the season. A number of players on both occasions committed themselves to the Senior team only to have a change of heart before making any appearances. This meant that there was no depth in the squad and the moral of the team was adversely affected. The team stumbled from game to game and finished the season in last position.

At the end of the season Senior Manager Ken Sisk decided to step down from his  position. During Ken’s tenure of the Senior team he achieved promotion to the Munster Senior League Premier Division and maintained this status last year. All at Wanderers would like to thank Ken for his commitment over the last number of years and we would like to wish him all the best in the future.

The Junior team had an up and down year with no consistent run of form. From competing with the top teams and struggling against the poorer sides the team finished in comfortable midtable.

Junior Manager Sean Geasley also decided to step down from managing the Junior team. Sean has been at the helm for a number of years and all at Wanderers would like thank him for his commitment over the years. Sean will retain his position as Treasurer of the club.

For the first time Wanderers entered an Over 35 team in the Munster Senior League Over 35 Competition. Manger Paddy O’Connor and Assistant Tom McCarthy had a strong squad all year and won the League competition with 1 game remaining. The team also reached the Cup semi-final losing to eventual winners Casement Celtic.

Congratulations to all involved and we look forward to defending the league next year.

Cobh Wanderers A.F.C. would like to thank all the managers, assistants, players, supporters, sponsors, hanger’s on, ticket sellers, ticket buyers and everyone involved in the club in any way, shape or form for their support throughout the year. We hope that you will all remain involved next season.
