2015 Awards Night

November 8, 2018

A very enjoyable Awards Night was held on Saturday in Cullen's The Hill. As always, club President Eddie Forde did a great job as Master of Ceremonies introducing the various awards winners with his carefully researched citations. The winners were:

  • Hall of Fame: PJ Conway (accepted on his behalf by Jim Boland);
  • Clubman of the Year: Clive Lambe;
  • Juvenile Clubman of the Year: Niall Humphries;
  • Intermediate Player of the Year: Bobby Rooney;
  • Junior Player: Daniel Quigley;
  • Young Player: Anthony Byrne.

Congratulations to all the Award Winners especially Hall of Fame Winner, PJ Conway, formerly of Barnhill, a stylish forward who gave great service to the club in the sixties and seventies. He played Minor at the age of 14 in 1960 before becoming a regular on the Senior team up to the mid-70s and was on the last Clonmore team to contest a County Senior Final in 1965. Unfortunately, PJ was unable to attend due to being out of the country and the award was collected on his behalf by former team-mate from the 1965 team, Jim Boland.

There was a special presentation of framed Clonmore jerseys to Ann O'Neill (ee Purser) and Kelly Purser in memory of their much loved mother, Lily, who gave outstanding service to the club for over 30 years taking care of the jerseys. Sadly, Lily passed away suddenly on 12 September at the age of 70. In an emotional presentation ceremony, you could hear a pin drop as MC, Eddie Forde, paid fitting tribute to Lily, followed by a standing ovation that lasted for several minutes. Ní bheidh a leithead ann arís – we will not see her likes again.
