All County League: Clonmore lose to Old Leighlin

November 8, 2018

14/03/2014: ACL V Old leighlin.

The trip to Old Leighlin for our first game of the year proved to be a painful experience as we shipped a heavy defeat against the County Senior Champions. But it is early days, the players have only had two outdoor training sessions and we were short 18 from last year's panel (see list below). So no need to panic and fair play to the 20 lads who played and tried their hearts out for the full hour.

Great to see returned emigrants Paddy Gahan (pictured), Niall Humphries and Michael Murray back in action and Mick & Chris Smith in the red & green again. Also good to see Gavin Byrne and Paul Hogan, who finished last year with injuries, in fine fettle. Youngsters Joe Hickey, Adam Byrne, Enda McGrath and Martin Doyle were making their debuts at senior level and all acquitted themselves well. Unfortunately, Willie Byrne picked up a painful elbow injury and had to be taken to hospital. Darren McGrath also picked a back injury early on. We wish Willie and Darren speedy recoveries.

There is no shame in losing, the only shame is in losing heart and these lads never lost heart. We play Fenagh at home next Saturday, 22 March at 4.30pm. Onwards and upwards.

Team: Paddy Byrne, Michael Smith, John Kelly, Joe Hickey, Paddy Gahan, Enda McGrath (Hillview Tce), Willie Byrne, Gavin Byrne, Ronan Doyle, PJ Byrne, Niall Humphries, Adam Byrne, Michael Murray, Darren McGrath, Enda McGrath (Scotland).
