Senior Football
At Cregg on Sunday, we were beaten by Salthill-Knocknacarra in the second round of the Senior League by 3-7 to 1-9. We opened the scoring on five minutes when Anthony Pender shot a point three minutes later John Boylan had it all square but Sean Armstrong gave the visitors the lead a minute later. Michael Melia levelled matters on twelve minutes but Sean Armstrong with a point and a Ciaran Begley with a goal gave the city side a 1-3 to 0-2 lead mid way through the half. We then hit a scoring spree and scored 1-5 without reply with Frankie Burke and Mathias Coleman scoring two points each and Melia adding the other, P.J Fahy scored the goal that left us leading by 1-7 to 1-3 as we entered injury time in the first half but Seam Armstrong had the final score of the half to give us a lead of three points at the break. Facing the breeze in the second half we scored first, a point from sub Joseph Farragher after thirteen minutes, Sean Armstrong had the next score for Salthill-Knocknacarra a point and when Seamie Crowe goaled on eighteen minutes it was all square 1-8 to 2-5.
Frankie Burke pointed a free a minute later and it was to be our last score of the game but the visitors went on to add a further 1-2 to run out winners by 3-7 to 1-9 and as a result we are now pointless after two rounds of the League as we again failed to find the target in the second half despite good scoring chances in front of goal.
Our next game is against Michael Breathnachs in Cregg and we must up our overall performance and avoid our second half scoring famine, as we have only managed two points in the second half of our last two League games.
