Another A league defeat for Moylagh

November 7, 2018

Longwood heaped the pressure on under fire manager Johnny Quirke s charges with a narrow victory on Tuesday night last at Longwood. The first half was evenly contested with both sides swapping scores throughout with Moylagh s best effort coming from the boot of Shane Brody. Longwood went in at the break one ahead. Moylagh began the second half brightly but were dealt a cruel blow when the impressive Joe Melia was harshly sent off for a foul by Sean Martin. Indeed the referee, Scotsman D Macleod (who legend says was taught refereeing and Latin by his uncle Argyle), endured plenty of abuse from the visiting supporters for some very questionable decisions against Moylagh throughout. Moylagh battled gamely and stayed point to point with the hosts with scores from Colm Fanning and Tom O Reilly keeping them on parity, but the extra man told late on when Longwood broke away for three unanswered scores to gain a hard fought victory and condemn Moylagh to their fourth straight league defeat.
