Athlone Town FC Club Notes w/e 22/07/12

November 8, 2018

Port Vale Friendly
Athlone Town will welcome Port Vale to Athlone Town stadium on Tuesday, July 24th with a 7.45pm kick-off. Friendly matches are a great opportunity for the club and supporters to demonstrate what we, and the region, have to offer visiting teams. With no pressure on the result, it should be an open and entertaining game. Friendly matches are an important source of funds for the club, and one which also offer a night’s football entertainment. Why not pop down to the Stadium next Tuesday?
New Signings at Athlone Town FC!
It continues to be a busy transfer window for Athlone Town with local lad Neil Harney signing for the club from Bohemians and Mark McGoldrick coming in on loan from Sligo Rovers for the remainder of the season. Both players impressed when coming off the bench in last Friday’s game against Finn Harps. Mike Kerley has also added Shane Dunne and Sean Skelly to the squad with their clearance to play coming over the weekend. Over the coming weeks, we’ll be carrying interviews and bios with all the new additions www.athlonetownfc.ie and in the match programme.
U17 trials announced
U17 trials will take place this Saturday at Athlone Town Stadium from 10am-12.30pm. Trials are open, so if you think you have the talent to represent ‘The Pride of the Midlands’ at underage level, get in touch with U17 manager Mick Dolan on 0858274417 or 0872602567. The club work hard on youth development as is evidenced by the young local squad we have, you could be on that path soon.
Mick will be supported in his role by Tadhg Carey, who we are delighted to announce has accepted the role of U17 assistant manager at the club. Tadhg is a Youth Cert qualified coach and has worked with the underage structure at the club over recent years.
Away days to Waterford
Athlone Town travel to Mervue United this coming Friday and we will, pending interest, run a bus to another huge game for the club in our promotion hunt, especially with Longford Town facing Waterford United on Saturday next. The team need your support. The bus will leave from a Town centre location at 5.30pm. To book a place, contact info@athlonetownfc.ie or text 0831061267
2012 Sponsor Draw
Congratulations to Athlone institute of Technology on their success in the 2012 sponsor draw, which Club President Tony Knight drew on the pitch last week. It’s fitting that the winning ticket was drawn from the Ferrari Cup, given the work started by the club and AIT on player development. We’d also like to thank all those businesses who so generously sponsored us for the draw.
Lotto Sellers
The club are currently looking to extend the reach of our successful Club Lotto. With this in mind we are seeking a limited number of lotto sellers, who will be offered a commission rate on tickets sold. If interested, contact info@athlonetownfc.ie or phone 0831061267
Paul Danaher
Friday 13th was a lucky one for Paul as he underwent surgery on the cruciate ligament injury which has ruled him out of the game for the remainder of the season. Speaking with Paul the following day, he told us that the surgeon had been happy with the operation and he was already planning his recovery path. All at the club wish Paul the Best of Luck through his recovery.
