Athlone Town FC Press release

November 8, 2018

Athlone Town FC is once again asking people of Athlone to sign up to its patrons scheme after the club’s place in the League of Ireland was confirmed this week.

Over 250 people have already subscribed to the scheme and the club needs to secure 400 patrons in order to fully clear its existing debt.

The club issued the appeal for more patrons after it was granted a First Division licence for the 2009 season.

Welcoming the decision of the FAI Club Licensing Committee announced on Monday, club chairman Tony Knight said: ‘It’s been a turbulent few months for the club and we would like to acknowledge the help we have received from all within the community.’

‘The patrons scheme has ensured League of Ireland football continues in Athlone and we are extremely grateful to all who subscribed to date.

‘This effort by supporters is a great example of what can be achieved when people work together. But we really need to increase the number of patrons to 400 to enable the club build for the future without the past debts holding us back.’

The club would also like to acknowledge the support and understanding of last year’s playing squad and the PFAI in what was a difficult couple of months for all involved.

We would also wish to pay tribute to this year’s management team who continued to prepare for the coming season despite the uncertainty.

The First Division licence was issued subject to financial commitments entered into being met. We envisage no difficulties in meeting this provision.

The club also confirmed that family season tickets, providing admittance to two adults and two children, will be issued to all patrons.

Details of the patrons scheme can be found on our website (www.athlonetownfc.ie) and application forms can be downloaded there and handed to any committe member.

Patrons will receive the following benefits:

  1. A family season ticket allowing admittance to all Athlone Town games at Lissywollen, to include League Cup and FAI Cup games, for 2009 and 2010
