Clonmore GFC Annual Awards for 2009.
Although the middle of May, last Saturday night we paid tribute to the club members who excelled in 2009 both on and off the playing field and acknowledged past achievements.
Minor Player went to Niall Humphries.
Junior player of the year was James ‘Scott’ Doyle.
“Hall of Fame‘ went to Jim Doyle, formerly of Water Street, an excellent player with the club for many years from the late 60s to the early 80s and uncle to Junior player of the year, James. Jim was a fast and incisive half forward who played alongside his bothers, John, Tom & Mick, in the 1980 campaign that saw Clonmore win the Intermediate Championship beating Nurney in the final on a scoreline of 0-10 to 2-3. Another brother, Paddy, was also a fine footballer who played for Clonmore for many years. Jim was co-author of a publication with the late Jack Byrne in 1981 entitled ‘Our Sporting Heritage’, a major undertaking which recorded the history of gaelic games in the area and in our club. Congratulations to Jim on this well deserved elevation into the Hall of Fame.
