The Ballina side, with a combination of players from the under 16 squad and a number of players new to the Ballina club, showed great determination leaving no one in doubt that that they will be a force to be reckoned with in the adult competition in the years to come. Handball: Congratulations to James Prentice who partnered Jerome Cahill from Kilruane to win the All Ireland U14 doubles title by overcoming Galway 15/7 15/3 in Croke Park.  Well done to both of them.

U12 Football: The u12s were denied in both their matches last Friday night. Both the Red and the Blue team losing by a single point. The red team faced a creative Moneygall side who used their possession well. Try as they might, the lads could not peg them back after a wind assisted first half. Although they totally dominated the second half they could not get back on terms and were a single point in arrears on the final whistle  Cameron MacAuley and Conor Power were the stars of the show with a notable mention for Mathew Power and Josh Egan. The Blue team faced their near neighbours, Portroe, and although they started strongly, they were eventually reeled in by a competitive Port side. Two early goals by Sam Loughran drove the lads on and a mature display by goalkeeper Kian Donnelly kept us in it, but we had to give second best to Portroe boys by a single point. Here’s to better luck next week when we play Silvermines and Templederry.

U16 Football: We continued our good start to the football championship wit a comprehensive win at home against Silvermines last Monday evening. Physically stronger throughtout the field Ballina got the upper hand early on and despite conceding an early goal they went in at half time with a good lead helped by a goal  by David Kelly. With the aid of a strong wind in the second half Ballina never looked in danger and added further goals from Daniel Joslin and Conan O ‘Sullivan. Next Monday away to Moneygall.
