The James McKeogh Memorial tournament: The James McKeogh Memorial tournament was held last Sunday in warm conditions with the pitch in excellent condition. The participating teams were Milford (Cork), Scariff and Smith O’ Briens (Clare) and Ballina. Scariff were winners over Ballina in the opening game while Smith O’ Briens defeated Milford thus setting up a final between two close Clare rivals. Ballina defeated Milford in the third and fourth place game. The final was a closely contested game with some good hurling in which Smith O’Briens emerged as winners. Liam Walsh the Killaloe captain accepted the cup from Jimmy McKeogh thanking the McKeogh family for their generosity and hospitality on this day which is always touched with sadness as James is remembered by so many. Each participating captains received a memento of the occasion and Seamus Gleeson Smith O’Briens received the player of the tournament award. Much appreciation also for the referees Martin Griffin, Johnnie Healy and their umpires who officiated in all the games.
