Ballina/Boher Parish and GAA News

Ballina GAA and Parish Lotto Build Up:   As you know, our Jackpot figure now stands at €12,000.   A  Build Up Jackpot is now underway and presently stands at €4,200.  As long as the main Jackpot is not won, each Jackpot figure will receive the €200 bonus every second week.

 

Timber Auction:   The Timber Auction takes place in GAA Complex on Sunday, December 12th.   A variety of firewood will be on the market and preparation of this is still ongoing.  Anyone who wants to contribute should submit their name to The Club Secretary, John Gleeson, as soon as possible.

 

AGM:   The AGM of the Intermediate Club will take place on Friday, December 17th at 8.30pm.  This is  the opportunity to review the achievements of 2010 and plan for 2011.  All members should make an earnest attempt to attend.

 

Squash:   The Squash season is in full flight at the moment.  It is the ideal game to keep in shape over the festive season.   A Squash membership gift voucher makes the ideal Christmas present.   For full details, contact John Healy.

 

Juvenile Club AGM:    The Ballina Juvenile GAA club AGM will be held on Friday December  10th at 8pm in the clubhouse.

Fridays in Ballina:  Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from 10.30am to 5pm.  Midday Prayer of the Church and Benediction at 1.05pm.  Why not come along and pray awhile with us?

Cancer Support Centre:  Suaimhneas Cancer Support Centre are currently looking for qualified therapists in Reflexology, Aromatherapy and Thgerapeutic massage to volunteer your service 1-2 hours weekly.  Please contact Kay on 087 6855884 for details.

Wedding Bells:  Congratulations to Joseph Sandor Szokodi, Kincora Close and Marte Eva Czekalska, Kincora Close,  who were married in Ballina last weekend.

Ballina Choir:  The choir in Ballina Church is up and running again.  Rehearsals every Friday in the Church, 7pm to 7.45pm for children and 7.45pm to 8.45pm for adults.  All are welcome.  Initially, the focus will be on developing music at the 11.30 Sunday Mass, which is attended by many parents with young children.  Throughout the year, we will distribute seasonal song sheets, and we encourage all of you join in making our celebration of the Lord’s Day a joyful and uplifting experience.  Our director of Liturgical Music, Paul Collins, is hoping to launch our choir on the First Sunday of Advent, November 28th at 11.30 Mass.

St. Vincent de Paul:  The Annual St. Vincent de Paul collection will be taken up next weekend December 4th/5th.   Your support will be much appreciated as this money is spent locally for people in need.

Automated External Defibrillator:  Currently there is a drive to provide another Defibrillator within our community.  In conjunction with the local GAA club, a defibrillator and a set of jerseys can be obtained through the Jack and Jill Project.  It would mean that over 500 old mobile phones would have to be collected.  Please search for these unused phones in a bid to improve our community.  Contact Fr. First Friday:   Masses:  Ballina at 10am, Boher at 7.30pm.  Holy Communion to the sick and housebound on that day.

Blood Donation:   The Irish Blood Transfusion Service will be holding a Blood Donor Clinic in the Lakeside Hotel, Ballina on Wednesday, December 1st from 6pm to 9pm.

Killaloe/Ballina Senior Citizen’s Christmas Party:  The Committee of this organization cordially invites you to their Annual Christmas Party on Sunday, December 5th in the Lakeside Hotel from 3pm to 8pm.  Mass in the Lakeside will be at 3pm followed by Christmas Dinner, music and dancing and the free raffle.  It is 40 years since the first party so come and celebrate with us.
