The draw for the U21 West ‘A’ Football Championship took place at the West Board AGM in Peacock’s Maam Cross on Tuesday night.
Barna, the defending champions, were drawn in pool 1, alongside Killanin and Chois Coirribe, an amalgamation of Clonbur and Oughterard.
Moycullen, Salthill/Knocknacarra and An Cheathrú Rua make up pool 2.
The first game in Barna’s pool is Killanin versus Chois Coirribe, which is scheduled to go ahead on the weekend of January 31.
Two weeks later and Barna are due to play Killanin at home in their first game; and the next game is against Chois Coirribe away.
The idea of the new format is two pools of three teams, and each team plays two games, one home and away.
The winner of the pool 1 will earn a home semi-final place against the runners-up in pool 2, and vice versa.
The AGM was held in Peacock’s, which is now run by Eoin Burke of the Burke’s in Clonbur, and there was a healthy turnout given the poor weather conditions.
Barna GAA Chairman, Johnnie Flaherty and secretary, Mary Conneely, attended on behalf of the club.
