Last League Game for Third Team.

We travelled to Pairc Ui Chonaill in Cobh to play our final league fixture in Division 3 of the East Cork JHL on Wednesday night of last week. We were short four players on the night.

We opened brightly but soon found ourselves under severe pressure having started against a very strong wind. In the first 10 minutes we conceded 4 points and our first 2 attacks were not fruitful. By the 20th minute we were 10 points behind before Gavin and Steve had two points from play. By half-time we were behind by 12 points to 2.
With wind assistance in the second half we started brightly and within minutes we had a goal from James Ber and a point from Niall. We maintained pressure on their defence and we scored three further goals, scored by Pa, Daniel and James Ber again. Cobh got back into the game and scored 1-3 without reply but the lads came roaring back into the game and some excellent long range points from Michael Hogan, Daniel and Steve kept us in the game. From there to the end scores were exchanged and a very lucky goal had Cobh back in the lead again but we fought to the final whistle and Sean burst through but drove the shot over the bar which left the final score of 2-16 to 4-8, losing by a margin of two points.

Team: Mce Dooley, Wm O’Leary, Brian Collins, Richard Foley, Barry Collins, Pa O’Driscoll, Jamie Buckley, Michael Hogan, Daniel Lane, Steve O’Leary, Gavin Quill, Niall Hogan, Kieran Wolfe, John O’Dowd, James Bermingham. Subs: Sean O’Brien and Fergus Collins

The game will be refixed and Monday next September the 10th is now the likely date. Players will be notified of time and venue.

Senior Hurling V Cloyne.
With Cloyne exiting the Intermediate Football Championship last weekend the way is now clear for the Senior Hurling on Sunday September the 16th. The two County Senior Hurling Semi Finals are down for decision on that date as well so our game could well be on the Saturday or the Sunday night of that weekend. At the time of writing no venue has been fixed for the game.

All Ireland Final.

This is All Ireland Hurling Final weekend, a unique occasion in the Irish Sporting calendar and a great national spectacle. Kilkenny bid to retain the senior title and Henry Shefflin aims to become the first hurler to win nine Senior All Ireland medals on the field of play and thus overtake the record held jointly by Christy Ring and John Doyle. Goalie on the Galway team is James Skehill from the Cappataggle Club. John Byrnes from Cappataggle came to live in Mondaniel in Rathcormac in 1974 and hurled with the club for several years. John was on the 1975 Junior team Captained by current Club President Pat O Connor that won the East Cork Junior B title. John died some years ago and was buried in Killaghton cemetery in his native parish. The Minor Final is being contested by Tipperary and Dublin. There is a Bartlemy interest in this game as two players, one on each panel have local roots! James Roche (Ballyboden St. Endas) is on the Dublin selection and Donal O Dwyer (Eire Og, Annacarthy) is a Tipperary panellist.
