Senior Championship Game Off

Our Cork County Senior Hurling Championship game against Blarney which had been fixed for next weekend is now postponed. The game was scheduled for 6pm on Saturday evening in Pairc Ui Chaoimh. After the result of the Munster Hurling Final in Thurles the Cork Senior Hurlers will now face Antrim in Croke Park on Sunday and the County Championship programme has had to be arranged. At the time of writing no definite date for our game has been fixed but next Tuesday July 27th is a distinct possibility.

Minors Win Tough Challenge

Our Minor Hurlers played Glanworth in a challenge game in Pynes Field on last Friday night. We got a great start with a Maurice Dooley goal in the first minute but after that Glanworth got well on top with a string of good points. Glanworth dominated the first half but our lads stayed in contention with a second goal. In the second half our marking was much tighter and we took over at midfield. The scores started to come and we registered a good win by 3-13 to 2-11. Thanks to Glanworth for coming to Rathcormac for the game. Our East Cork Minor Championship game against Carrignavar will be fixed shortly – probably in the second week of August. Team: F Hogan, B Hogan, A Buckley, R Foley, B Collins, J Pratt, G Healy, R O’Connor, J O’Leary, J Mannix, D Buckley, É O’Leary, K Cahill, M Dooley, K Sewell.

Two Defeats in Junior Leagues

We played two games in the East Cork Junior Leagues last week, both ending in defeats. In the Junior League Division 2 we played Midleton away on Thursday night and in Junior League Division 3 we were away to Castlemartyr on Monday night.

Team v Midleton:   Gavin Quill, Sean O’Brien, Brendan O’Driscoll, Pat Barry, Tomas Kearney, Liam Forde, Jim O’Connor, Pat Walsh, Gavin O’Flynn, Stephen Pratt, Cormac Collins, Stephen Walsh, Ryan O’Connor, Alan O’Keeffe and Pat Cotter. Subs: Daniel Lane for Pat Barry. Scorers: Pat Cotter 0-3 and Pat Walsh 0-2.

Team v Castlemartyr: D Lane, W O’Leary, J Delaney, B Collins, D Barry, S O’Brien (0-1), B Lahive, S Pratt (0-1), R O’Connor, N Hogan, A O’Keeffe (0-2), D Buckley (0-3), P Butler (0-1), J Hogan (0-2), F Collins (1-0) Subs: E Collins, J Kearney.

In the ‘back door’ of the Junior ‘B’ Grade Hurling Championship we drew Carrignavar – last years beaten finalists. They were defeated 3-15 to 1-11 by Aghada in the first round. This game along with our Junior ‘A’ quarter final will all be fixed shortly. The position in the Junior ‘A’ Championship is that St Itas play Fr O’Neills on July 29th and we are due to play the winners on August 4th.

Munster Final Disappointment

It was a whole new ball game in Thurles on Saturday night and it turned our under lights! In the end, after extra time no one could deny Waterford their victory. They got the scores when it mattered most and their defence was outstanding. The result means a trip to Dublin on Sunday for the Cork Hurlers. Antrim had a surprise but merited win over Dublin on last Saturday and have no doubt about it but the Ulster men will provide stern opposition for what is sure to be a much-changed Cork lineout. The game is timed for 2 o’clock and will be followed by Galway and Tipperary.

Car Boot Sale on Sunday
