Bride Rovers G.A.C. Notes For The Week.

November 8, 2018

Junior Hurlers win and Lose in League Games.

We had two games in the East Cork Junior Hurling League last week. On Thursday night we were away to Midleton in Division 2 and then on Saturday night we were away to St. Catherines in a Div 3 tie. Details;

Thursday 10th June 2010.

We travelled to Clonmult Memorial Park to play undefeated Midleton. The home side were much sharper early on.

We were away off the pace in the first 15 minutes and found ourselves down 0-5 to 0-1 and but for stout defending by our entire defence we could have  conceded 3 goals. We eventually got into our stride and against a very strong winds and a severe sun we scored 3 points without reply and  finished the half behind by 0-6 to 0-4. Some of the tactics by the opposition in that half have no place on the hurling field and the referee was kept busy but our lads kept their heads and left the referee handle matters.

We started well in the second half and secured 3 good points to put us in the lead. The referee was busy handing out  cards to the opposition but our lads continued to play hurling and were in total control but then we lost Richie Cahill with a serious injury and following this an opponent was shown a red card following an extremely high strike on Brendan O’Driscoll which necessitated Brenny having to leave the field of play. Following this we conceded a goal due to a mix-up in defence but Pat Cotter struck back to score a good point to leave the final score 0-10 to 1-6. This victory was achieved by good clean hard hurling with no foul stroke by a Rovers players, well done lads we were proud of you.

We wish Richie and Brenny a speedy recovery following their exploits on the night. Also we look forward to having Pa and Steve back training in days following their recent injuries. The next game in Division 2 of the League is on this coming Friday night  June 18th when we are away to Dungourney at 7.30. The JAHC v Cloyne is fixed for Ballynoe on Sunday July 3rd.

Scorers:   Pat Cotter 0-5, Terry Broderick 0-2, Eoin Murphy 0-1, Cormac Collins 0-1,Alan O’Keeffe 0-1.

On Saturday 12th June 2010 we travelled to Ballynoe for a JHL Div 3 game V St.Catherines.

We started slowly and within 2 mins were 1-1 behind, we then settled into the contest and scored 4 points on the trot to level matters. We then conceded a soft goal and a few frees which were converted. We were behind at half time by 2-8 to 1-7. In the second half we were conceding a lot of possession in the middle 3rd of the field due to lack of training by some players and were heavily punished for this. Late in the game we missed a great goal chance and also failed to convert 3 scorable frees. The final score was 2-14 to 1-10.
