Bride Rovers G.A.C. notes for the week.

November 8, 2018

Junior Footballers out.

For the second year in a row we are gone out of the East Cork Junior Football championship in the month of April. It is little consolation that we have had three game. The bottom line is we could and should have beaten  Carrignvar in the first round but lost by a single point. In the back-door game v Russell Rovers  we displayed some semblance of form to fashion a win. Unfortunately in Ballynoe on Saturday night last we took part in an awful game. We scored just a goal and a single point, plus an ‘own point’ from the Killeagh side, Glenbower Rovers. Despite this terrible scoring return we lost the game by just one point 0  6 to  1  2.

We had enough chances to win or at least draw the game but lack of forward accuracy came back to haunt us once more.

Team; Richie Cahill, Trevor Moloney, Brendan O Driscoll, Gavin O Flynn, Shane Kearney, Liam Forde, Pa O Driscoll, Sean Ryan, Terry Broderick, Donal Ryan, Padraig Murphy, Jason Mannix, Jason Pratt, Brendan Walsh, Alan O Keeffe, Subs; Jim O Connor, George Johnson, John O Dowd.

Others to play in the earlier rounds v Carrignavar and Russell Rovers were Jerome O Driscoll, Sean O Brien and Mike Kearney.

Thanks to all the players and selectors for their efforts.

Junior Hurling League.

We have games in Divisions  1 and 3 of the East Cork Junior Hurling League over the next few days. On this Friday night April 30th we travel to Pilmore to take on St Itas in a Division 3 game at 7.30 pm.

On next Wednesday night we are at home to Carrigtwohill in Division 1 of the JHL, also at 7.30 pm.

Senior Hurling.

The Seniors have no game this weekend. We have now 5 games played in the SHL and must get two more played before the first round of the Championship which is now just one month away.

Best of Luck Cork.

We wish the Cork Senior Hurling team all the best in the NHL final game v Galway on Sunday night. Hopefully Brian Murphy will be returned from injury. It is a pity that the GAA doesn’t just cater for genuine hurling supporters who would love to be in Thurles for a 2 o clock or a three o clock game rather than trying to pander to the whims of fair-weather, sometimes fans. Galway were incensed at the timing of the game and few could blame them.

La na gClub.

On Sunday May 9th the National La na gClub will be celebrated all over the country. At present we are finalising the plans for our event. A meeting about La na gClub will be held in the Clubrooms on this Friday night April 30th at 8.30.

Edinburgh Half Marathon.

Our own Shane Murphy is running the Edinburgh Half Marathon on Sunday May 23rd at 10am in aid of Help the Hospices. Donations can be made to http;//www.justgiving.co.uk/Shane Murphy

Shane is in University in Edinburgh and has taken part in several Marathons and Half Marathons for different charities. Best of Luck Shane.

Executive Meeting.

A special Club Executive Meeting will be held on next Wednesday night May 5th to evaluate the Club Development Committee’s plans for Grounds Development.

IHC Game in Pairc na Bride.

On this Saturday evening, Mayday Pairc na Bride will host the first game in the 2010 County Intermediate Hurling Championship. The game is between East Cork side St. Catherines and City team Blackrock. As this will be the Rockies second string the ‘Cats’ will be favourites to win out. The contest is timed for 7pm with Donald O Leary as reiteoir. All available Club Members are asked to attend.

‘Lest We Forget’

This recently published book is an account of the rededication of the Graves of the GAA’s Founders during the 125th Anniversary Year. Copies of the book are available at 12 Euros, including Post and Package from the author John Arnold, Bartlemy, Fermoy, Co. Cork.

Well Done Cork.

The Cork Football team had a facile win over Mayo in the National Football League Final in Croke Park on Sunday last. Congrats to all concerned and to our own Gerard Lane Co Board PRO who is the Team Liason Officer and Daniel Lane who is part of the Backroom Team.
