Senior & Junior Hurlers Beaten

We had two hurling teams in action on last Friday night . The Seniors travelled to Riverstick in the SHL while the Junior went to Kildorrery in the Avondhu/Imokilly JHL, we lost both games.

The  Senior Hurlers made the trip to Riverstick to play Ballymartle in our third game of the RED FM Sponsored Cork County Senior Hurling League.
The Rovers started very brightly with two pointed frees from Barry Johnson. Ballymartle opened their account through Rory O’Dwyer before Michael Collins scored a fine point.
The Rovers then won a penalty. Barry Johnson’s effort was stopped but Sean Ryan reacted the quickest to the rebound to score a goal. The Rovers failed to build on this lead and gradually Ballymartle played themselves back into the game, scoring a penalty of their own before half time to level scores. Half Time 1-05 each.
Ballymartle started the second half with great intensity and lead 2-09 to 1-06 after 10 minutes. Points by Sean Ryan & Barry Johnson reduced the deficit but a third goal by Ballymartle plus numerous points had them in front by eight with 10minutes to go. But the Rovers battled away and a goal by Colm O’Keeffe reduced Ballymartle’s lead. However Ballymartle finished with 2 more points to win on a score line of 3-17 to 3-10.
Team & Scorers: D.Fitzgerald, T.Moloney, D.Carr. S.Kearney, M.Kearney, L.Forde, B.Walsh, S.Boyce, B.Johnson (1-08), M.Collins (0-01), P.Murphy, J.Mannix, C.O’Keeffe (1-00), D.Dooley, S.Ryan (1-02). Subs Used: J.Pratt & A.Collins.

Junior Hurling League

Our Second team travelled to the Top of the Hill on Friday night to take on the home side in Section 2 of the Avondhu/Imokilly JHL.

We travelled  to fulfil the fixture as we were more interested in hurling rather than taking the points due to the fixtures misunderstanding.

Due to Examinations/Wedding/Injuries and the Senior Team also playing the League on Friday Night we were missing 11 players.

We were slow to get into the game and due to a fortuitous goal we found ourselves 1-3 down after 8 minutes. We then settled down and played some good passing movements and got back into the game with some excellent points from play. We got 2 goal chances which were not taken and found ourselves on top after 25 minutes and were down a goal at half-time on a score of 1-8 to 0-8.

We registered the first score in the 2nd half but disappointingly we faded out of the game for the next 15 minutes and due to indiscipline conceded needless frees. We came back into the game and were very unlucky not to have scored 3 goals. Kildorrery finished up deserving winners on a score line of 1-19 to 0-11.

Team: Frank Hogan, Fergus Collins, Tomas Kearney, Brian Collins, James Murphy, Pat Walsh, Jim O’Connor, Gavin O’Flynn, Terry Broderick, Kieran Collins, Richie Cahill, Pa O’Driscoll, Stephen Pratt, Alan O’Keeffe and Gavin Quill.

Subs Used:    Donal Ryan, Stephen O’Leary and Liam O’Leary.

Scorers:    Terry Broderick 0-5, Alan O’Keeffe 0-4, Pa O’Driscoll 0-1, Stephen Pratt 0-1.

BRIDE 10K

The Bride Rovers Club is holding a 10 k Road Race in Rathcormac on Sunday April 22nd. This is part of our on-going fundraising efforts for Club Development.

Participants can run, jog or walk. There will be prizes galore and it will be a real family, fun event. There will be various categories from Senior athletes down to fun runners. It is unfortunate that the race will clash with the Cork v Tipp NHL semi-final in Thurles but as the date is fixed the race will go ahead. Back in the 1930’s when the club was in its infancy Sports Meetings were huge fundraisers and so the wheel has come the full circle now. Road Races, Marathons and half marathons have become increasingly popular in recent years and everyone can participate at their own pace and have a bit of fun as well.
