Senior Seek Semi- Final Spot

Our Senior Hurling team are back in Championship action on Sunday next August 21st when they meet CIT in the County Quarter Final in Pairc Ui Chaoimh. It has been a roller coaster championship season so far for our Senior team- two defeats, a draw and two victories. The results of our five games to date meant that we have gone from being on the brink of a Relegation battle to the last eight in the County Championship. Regardless of how the game goes on next Sunday we certainly have got some outstanding displays this year.

We played Na Piarsaigh in Round 1 in Watergrasshill in early June. We were behind from the start and despite a great second half comeback lost by 1 16 to 1  10. A week later we were on the championship trail again when we travelled to Riverstown to take on Erins Own. We had a fantastic start and scoring burst to this game. With ten minutes to go we were still ahead but fell to a late scoring spree and lost by a margin of six points once again,  1  18 to 1  12. With two games lost it was into the second last chance saloon in Round Three. Our opponents were Bishopstown who had also lost two games. It took two games in Riverstown plus extra time to survive and avoid the Final that no one wants to be in. The first evening we were four points down with as many minutes to go but salvaged a draw with late, late scores. In extra time we surged ahead but back came the City Side to force a draw on a scoreline of  Rovers 2  15 B.stown  1 18. Six days later we paid our third visit of the year to Riverstown and won by 2  10 to 0  11. What a relief! In our Round 4 game we took on and defeated  Blackrock in Pairc ui Chaoimh by  2  11 to 1  12. Next Sunday will see our third meeting with CIT. In 2007 at Riverstown we won by 2  14 to 1  12. Two years ago we   played the College in HQ and lost by 3  10 to  2  7 having had a goal disallowed and hitting 12 wides.  The only championship game this year where we scored more than 12 point was the drawn game v Bishopstown and that included the extra time. We simply must hit over more points to have a real chance of making it to the semi final. CIT are a very strong team with a spread of scoring forwards. We are under no pressure of relegation now but we want to win this game and the Semi Final and the Final too. Go for it lads, the whole community is behind ye. The game on Sunday is at 4.15 with Midleton and Ballymartle as curtain raiser.
