Bride Rovers GAC Notes For The Week.

November 8, 2018

Junior Hurling League.

We had three fixture last week in the East Cork Junior Hurling League, Divisions Two and Three; Details of the fixtures are as follows; East Cork Junior Hurling  League, Division 2 V Sarsfields.

We started very slowly and by the time we got into the game Sars were ahead by 5 points. In our first serious attack Pat Cotter struck a great shot to the net and from the puck-out we hit an excellent point by Richie Cahill. Following this we conceded a goal to put Sars back in control but we ended the half strongly and had a further 3 points to finish the half ahead by 2-4 to 1-6.

Early in the second half following a mix up in defence we conceded a further goal followed by a quick point which put us on the back foot. We replied with a further goal and a point and the lads kept trying to the end but Sars ran out winners on a score of 3-10 to 3-5.

Scorers:    Pat Cotter 2-2, Richard Cahill 1-1, Jason Mannix 0-1, Terry Broderick 0-1.

Team:  Alan Broderick, Pat Barry, Brendan O’Driscoll, James Murphy, Pat Walsh, Liam Forde, Jim O’Connor, Patrick O’Driscoll, Gavin O’Flynn, Terry Broderick, Michael Hogan, Stephen Boyce, Jason Mannix, Richard Cahill, Pat Cotter

Subs Used: Tomas Kearney for Patrick O’Driscoll, Stephen Pratt for Tomas Kearney.

Patrick O’Driscoll was injured early in the game and we wish him a speedy recovery.

J.H.3 League V St.Itas.

This game was our second outing in Div 3 of the League but it was a tough task because it was our third team up against the Gortroe Club’s first XV.

We travelled to Pilmore with only 17 players, this was  very disappointing considering that we had 27 players for local derby  game at home the previous week.

We started the game playing against a gale force wind(which is the norm on the sea coast in Pilmore- but it was rarely ever stronger!) and with a very weakened team were down 3-9 to no score after the first period.

St Ita’s again started the 2nd half strongly and they ran out winners by 5-18 to 2-1.

Scorers:  Alan O’Keeffe 1-1 and John O’Dowd 1-0.

Hopefully for future games Team Manager Shane O Connor will get the support that he deserves from the panel of players. On the night we were up against a very good team who  realistically should not be in Division 3.

Team:    Gavin Quill, Mark O’Connell, Alan Broderick, Philip Butler, Sean O’Brien, Tomas Kearney, Niall Hogan, John O’Dowd, Padraig O’Brien, Stephen Pratt, Kevin O’Keeffe, Billy Lynch, Vincent O’Keeffe, Alan O’Keeffe, Daniel Lane.

Subs Used:  Willam O’Leary for Billy Lynch, Barry Collins for Vincent O’Keeffe, Billy Lynch for Sean O’Brien, Sean O’Brien for Padraig O’Brien.

J.H.L. Div. 2 V Midleton.at Pairc Na Bride-Sunday 16th May.

This game was fixed for 11.30.a.m.–both teams were on the field by 11.15– but there was no sign of a referee  by 11.30.Several of our players were members of the  Bartlemy Point to Point Race Committee whose  Annual meting was fixed for Sunday. As no referee had turned up by 11.50 our players decided to leave the field and when the appointed referee arrived at 11.55 many of our players had already left the grounds and consequently the match was not played. This was an unfortunate situation but not of our making or fault.

Action continues apace in the Junior Leagues with two more games down for decision. On this Thursday night May 20th we are away to Erins Own in Caherlag at 7.30 in a Division Three game.  Our next fixture in Division Two is also an away game against Watergrasshill on Monday night next May 24th at 7.30.

Senior Hurling Championship.

Our first Round Senior Hurling Championship game v St. Finbarrs is fast approaching. The tie is just a forthnight from this Saturday night, on June 5th in Pairc Ui Chaoimh as  part of a double header. Our form to date has been poor with only one win in the Red FM County Senior Hurling League under our belts. Injuries to various players haven’t helped the situation either. We’ve met the Togher side several times in recent years and two years ago, in our most recent clash, they defeated us in the first round.

Club Executive Meeting.

Our next meeting of the Club Executive is on Monday May 24th in the Clubrooms.
