Bride Rovers GAC Notes For The Week.

November 8, 2018

Free Fun Day for all next Sunday.
Next Sunday May 9th has been designated  La na gClub by the GAA. The day will be a special day to celebrate each and every single GAA Club throughout the land. The emphasis in not on competition or fund raising but rather on community involvement and the role of the volunteer in the GAA.
La na gClub was held for the first time in 2009 as part of the GAA’s 125 celebrations and was so spectacularly successful that it will now be an Annual Day.
The individual GAA Club is the basic unit of the GAA, without clubs there would no competitions at Divisional, County, Provincial or National level. La na gClub recognises the role that Hurling, Football, Camogie and Ladies Football play in Irish society. The Day is also an open invitation to the public and community at large to come and enjoy a few hours of fun and entertainment -all for free.
Last years event in the Bride Rovers Grounds, Pairc na Bride was fantastic with huge crowds attending and we hop for a repeat next Sunday from 2 until 5 in the afternoon.
There will be a range of underage mini games/go games for boys and girls, skills competitions and fun events. The club shop will be open with the latest range of club gear on display. Old photos and memorabilia will be on display as well as a video slide show. Face painting, refreshments, treasure hunt, faces and places and musical entertainment will also be provided.
It is a day for the people of the parish and everyone is welcome.

Senior Hurling League.

Bride Rovers 3-11 Sarsfields 2-16

On Wednesday night last Bride Rovers travelled to Riverstown to play Sarsfields in the Red FM sponsored Senior Hurling League and while we were defeated by 2 points it was an encouraging performance as the countdown to championship v St.Finbarrs begins. When Owen Murphy goaled for the Rovers after 15 minutes we were leading 1-03 to 0-04, the three Rovers points all coming from the stick of Daniel Dooley. Further points from Michael Collins & David Burke had us still in front after 20 minutes, 1-05 to 0-06 but the Sarsfields got on top and bagged a goal as well as scoring 5 points to lead at half time 1-11 to 1-05. In second half the Rovers battled hard and goals from Michael Collins & Donal Ryan had reduced Sarsfields lead to a point. Despite a brace of points from Sean Ryan & three more from Barry Johnson we never got in front of Sarsfields who held out to win by 2 points.
Aidan Collins will captain the Bride Rovers Senior Hurling Team for 2010.
