Bride Rovers GAC Notes For The Week.

November 8, 2018

Junior Football Championship this weekend.

We play Glenbower Rovers in Round 3 of the East Cork Junior A Football championship on next Saturday night April 24th. A few years ago we would have been the hottest of favourites going into this game but things have changed. Our football fortunes have declined in the last two seasons while the Killeagh side are on the up. They reached the East Cork Final last year, losing out to Cloyne and this year they are continuing their good form. We lost to Carrignavar in the first round but had a good win over Russell Rovers in the Losers Group despite the loss of Brendan Walsh and Michael Kearney. The game on Saturday night will be played at 7pm in Ballynoe. We will be the outsiders but that never upset us, go for it lads.

U21 Football Championship

Our U21 team failed to progress past Erins Own in the opening round of the football championship at Lisgoold last week. The first half was marked with impressive play from John Kearney, Daniel Dooley and Jason Pratt, who accounted for 1-1. We were trailing by 5 points at half time and then the Glounthane side took complete control and ran out comfortable winners against a youthful Bride Rovers side. Well done to all the players who lined out, unfortunately we were missing several players due to injury.

Team: Paul Dee, Fergus Collins, John Kearney, William O’Leary, Owen Murphy, Daniel O’Brien, Ryan O’Connor, Jason Pratt, Jason Mannix, Daniel Dooley, Stephen Boyce, Daniel Lane, Kieran Kearney, Vincent O’Keeffe, Gerard Healy.

Mixed Fortunes in Senior Hurling League.

Bride Rovers 0-15 Ballinhassig 0-13

On Tuesday week last Bride Rovers collected their first 2 points in the Red FM sponsored Senior Hurling league following a 2 point victory against Ballinhassig in Rathcormac. This was a very even contest with team level on no fewer than 6 occassions throughout the game, however only for the heroics of Denis Fitzgerald in goal this result would have gone the way of the visitors, as he made four top class saves to keep the Rovers in the game.
At the end of the opening half Ballinhassig were up one point, 0-6 to 0-5 with the Rovers scores coming from Michael Collins, Barry Johnson (3) and David Burke. David made his debut for the Rovers following his transfer from Tipperary side Boherlahan Dualla. Into the second half and it was still a close contest, with the teams level at 0-12 each entering the final ten minutes, Rovers points coming from Barry Johnson (3), Padraig Murphy, Michael Collins, David Burke & Sean Ryan, the Rovers pulled away with points from Daniel Dooley (2) & Barry Johnson to secure the league points.

Team & Scorers: D.Fitzgerald, S.Kearney, B.O’Driscoll, T.Moloney, A.Collins, B.Walsh, Bn. Murphy, B.Johnson (0-7), P.Murphy (0-1), K.Collins, D.Burke (0-2), J.O’Driscoll, M.Collins (0-2), D.Ryan, S.Ryan (0-1). Subs Used: P.O’Driscoll, P.Cotter, D.Dooley (0-2).

Bride Rovers 0-11  Cloyne 1-10
On Sunday evening last in Cloyne we were defeated in the Senior Hurling league by the home side on a scoreline of 1-10 to 0-11. A total of 14 wides tells its own story in a game where we hurled well but failed to convert our chances. At the end of the opening half we trailed by 1-06 to 0-6 having conceded a soft goal and had 9 wides. The Rovers points coming from Barry Johnson (3), Daniel Dooley, Padraig Murphy & David Burke. In a tough and close second half we never gained the lead and eventually lost out by 2 points despite further points from Barry Johnson, David Burke & Michael Collins.

Team & Scorers: D.Fitzgerald, S.Kearney, B.Walsh, T.Moloney, L.Forde, A.Collins, P.O’Driscoll, B.Johnson (0-6), S.Boyce, P.Murphy (0-1),  D.Burke (0-2), S.Ryan, M.Collins (0-1), K.Collins, D.Dooley (0-1). Subs Used: J.Pratt, D.Ryan & C.Collins.
