East Cork Championship Semi-Final

Bride Rovers 3-10             Glanmire 4-5

We qualified for the U16 East Cork final under the lights at Fuohy Park last Thursday night when we overcame Glanmire in a tight, well-contested encounter. We looked like we were finally in command when we went 4 points up in the second half but Glanmire came back with 2 goals in rapid succession to leave us trailing by 2 points with time running out. However, a great point from Claire Murphy and a last gasp goal from Meg Kelliher gave us the win we deserved on the balance of play.

East Cork Championship Final

Bride Rovers 2-4               Fermoy 5-10

Fermoy ran out convincing winners of the East Cork U16 final when a succession of goals in the second half killed off this final as a contest. Our girls acquitted themselves admirably for long periods, were in contention well into the second half and can be proud of their performance. Our possession stats were probably not that far behind Fermoy’s but the difference between the teams was the ability to convert that possession into scores and goals in particular. Nevertheless, it was clear that this group of players continue to improve as a unit and a bright future beckons both for those moving on to minor and adult grades and also for those who are U16 again next year. Well done to mentors John O’Dowd and Catherine Murphy who did a fantastic job with the whole panel all year.

Well done to Fermoy and thanks to Kilworth for making their excellent pitch available for this final.

This was Bride Rovers last fixture of 2012 and we can now look back on another good year for the club where we enjoyed some success, some near misses and some disappointments. We now look forward to resuming activities in 2013 after the winter break.
