Senior Football

Thursday, September 13th

Bride Rovers 2-3               Inch Rovers 3-22

Our first year in the senior ladies football ranks ended in disappointment when we lost to Inch Rovers in the county semi-final last Thursday at Youghal. Commiserations to all the panel and mentors on this defeat but Inch are an established senior club, with many players with inter-county experience, so this was always going to be a very difficult assignment. Our girls tried very hard throughout and worked tirelessly to avoid the concession of goals until the closing stages of the game when tiredness inevitably set in after such a high-tempo encounter. On the positive side, our senior panel did quite well in 2012 as a whole, reached a league final and won two rounds in the senior championship. The next step is to try to bridge the gap to the top sides in the senior ranks, such as Inch Rovers, and the experience of this year will certainly stand to us.  Finally, thanks to Youghal Ladies Football club who hosted the semi-final and did a great job.

U8 Football

The U8 girls footballers took part in a blitz held last Saturday morning in Lisgoold. Under nice weather conditions we played five 10min games. We played  Glanmire, Watergrasshill, Midleton, Rockban and Lisgoold. The girls all played great and showed their skills they’ve been learning over the last few months. They all received a medal after the game and all enjoyed the day. We’d like to thank Lisgoold for inviting us to the blitz and to all our supporters on the day. Training continues every friday evening at 7pm.

Our Panel on the day was- Ella Barry, Ava Barry, Kate Larkin, Leanna Kiely, Caoimhe Gubbins, Niamh O’Sullivan, Megan & Sarah Buckley, Ruby Broderick, Michelle Geaney, Ruby Hicks, Rachael Walshe, Sarah Bermingham, Molly O’Connell, Lilly Murray and Aoife McCarthy.

U14 Football

Wednesday, September 12th

Glanmire 5-2      Bride Rovers 5-11

Our U14s qualified for an East Cork A Championship final last Wednesday evening when we travelled to Buck Leary’s  cross and returned with a deserved 9 point win. We were missing a few regulars so the performance was very pleasing in that the panel is growing in strength as the year goes on. We now look forward to an East Cork final against either Fermoy or Midleton which will be played in the next couple of weeks.

Scorers : Emma Roche 1-3, Emma Barry 0-1, Katie Quirke 4-2, Michelle Lane 0-2, Grace Culloty 0-1, Nicola Murphy 0-1, Laura Quirke 0-1.

Saturday, September 15th

We participated in a 7-a-side U14 blitz at Fermoy GAA last Saturday, which was their first time playing in such a tournament. Fermoy invited some very strong sides, from Cork and beyond, but our girls acquitted themselves well against Dungarvan, Fermoy, Douglas and Aherlow. Many thanks to Fermoy Ladies football club for inviting us to such an innovative competition and for their hospitality.
