Bride Rovers vs Carrigtwohill

Our camogie panel enjoyed their second county championship win (beat Blarney the week before) when they enjoyed a comfortable win over a gallant Carrigtwohill side at Rathcormac. Early scores gave us a good lead which we held onto for the remainder of the game as the experience of our panel clicked in. We now have a county semi-final to look forward to, probably on the weekend of September 1st/ 2nd.

Minor Ladies Football

Wednesday, August 8th.

Bride Rovers 3-13             Inch Rovers 4-9

The importance of plugging away, even in the most difficult circumstances, was never clearer than during our East Cork Minor football league fixture at Pynes against visitors Inch Rovers. Well behind at half-time, and comprehensively outplayed to give credit to Inch, we gradually dragged our way back into the match and snatched victory in dramatic fashion in the closing stages. Our girls were much better in the second half and showed impressive scoring power with a hat-trick of goals from Meg Kelliher and points from Katie Connor, Jennifer Cahill and Elaine Culloty in the tense closing stages. Our backs tightened up considerably, led by Mary Hazelwood, and Jen Barry and Trish O’Sullivan got to grips with the situation around the middle of the field. Our second half performance was most encouraging and great credit is due to the players who could easily have dropped their heads after the first half.

Panel: Margaret Kearney, Shannon Sheehan, Lauren Friel , Erin O’ Keeffe, Mary Hazelwood, Aoife O’ Riordan, Jennifer Barry, Trish O’ Sullivan, Meg Kelleher (3-0), Katie Connor (0-3), Elaine Culloty (0-3), Jennifer Cahill (0-7), Laura Pratt, Aoife Deasy, Niamh Murphy.

Fermoy vs Bride Rovers

Our good run in the East Cork minor league was interrupted when Fermoy convincingly beat us on Monday night. This was disappointing after the encouraging wins over Midleton and Inch Rovers. Still, we have 2 league games to come against Carrigtwohill and Aghada and we will be looking to bounce back from this reverse.

U13/14 Football

Last Tuesday, August 7th, our U13/14 girls played Inch Rovers at Killeagh GAA pitch. It was a tough match for the girls especially with the additional rule that only 3 girls born in 1998 could be on the field at any one time. The girls started strong with a goal from Katie Quirke. It was a close match with Inch getting several scores in the first half but our girls fought hard and following scores from Katie Quirke and a penalty from Grace Culloty kept the scoreboard ticking over. At half time the score was 3-1 to 3-3 in favour of Inch. In the second half Inch drew ahead but our girls never gave up with some great scores from our full forward line. Our goalie, Madison Parle, played an outstanding match, saving two strong penalties to keep us in the game. Both teams fought hard but in the end Inch Rovers emerged victorious on a scoreline of 5-1 to 7-8.
