Senior Ladies Football

Last Monday, July 30th, our Senior Ladies played Carrigtwohill/Erins Own at Redmond’s GAA pitch in the quarter final of the County Championship. Our girls started well with a point from Jennifer Barry. It was a good game of football with scores from both sides. Late in the first half Claire Murphy replaced Eleanor Ahern due to injury and played her part well. By half time we were in the lead with scores from Jennifer Barry, Grace Kearney, Sinead Walsh, Catherine Power and Eleanor Ahern. In the second half our backline played exceptionally well even though fog made playing conditions difficult. If it was not for our strong defenders (Emma, Arlene, Bridgie, Mary, Shelly and Maria) we would have been in severe trouble. The introduction of Elaine Dee early in the second half made a huge difference when she scored a superb goal to keep Rovers ahead. Some excellent saves from our goalie Catríona Vaughan prevented Carrigtwohill/Erins Own from gaining a lead. Points from Grace Kearney and Sinead Walsh ensured a win for the Rovers with a final score of 2-13 to 3-5.
