Cork vs Kerry, Senior Munster Football Final

Bride Rovers were well represented at Castletownroche last Saturday for the Munster senior final with Eleanor Ahern, Jen Barry and Grace Kearney all on the Cork panel. The match itself was an exciting affair, played in a great spirit in searing heat and with great quality on show by both teams. Cork were just pipped by a point by Kerry in their bid for a tenth successive Munster title but there is every chance these two sides will meet for a third time this season later in the All-Ireland series.

Junior Football
Monday, July 8th
East Cork Junior B Championship
Aghada 4-14 Bride Rovers B 2-6

We played Aghada on Tuesday night in a Junior East Cork Championship semi-final. We were beaten by an Aghada team who had 2 Cork senior & 1 minor player in their ranks. Quite possible in all honesty, Aghada probably should be competing at a higher grade. Unfortunately due to injuries and holidays we were missing a number of players ourselves on the night. But I’d like to thank all the players who did play on the night in what was a hastily organised game.

We worked tirelessly throughout, and after a slow start, eventually found our way in the game, putting in a great performance in the second half. This game was good experience for some of our younger players who showed that they are more than capable to play junior football. We now look forward to county championship in a couple of weeks time.

Team: Carol Noonan, Aoife O’Riordan, Cynthia Buckley, Aine Cashman, Erin O’Keeffe, Trish O’Sullivan, Karen Sheehan, Katie Kelleher (1-2), Katie Connor (0-1), Aoife Deasy, Laura O’Keeffe (1-0), Imelda Dorgan, Sarah Barry (0-1), Sinead O’Driscoll.
Subs: Elaine Culloty (0-2).

Senior/Junior Football

Preparation for upcoming county championships continued this week with a challenge game at Carrigtwohill last Thursday night against Carrigtwohill/Erins Own in a repeat of last year’s county quarter-final. Our girls performed well and had the better of the encounter overall.

U21 Football
Monday, July 15th, Passage West
County U21 Semi-Final
Bride Rovers 1-11 Kinsale 2-9

Our U21s lost out on a county final when we were touched off by the narrowest margin at Passage West by Kinsale last Monday night. We looked in command for much of the game, not least when we led by 4 points in the second half, but we failed to press home our advantage and credit to Kinsale who never gave up and snatched victory at the end. Hard luck to all our players and mentors and best of luck to Kinsale in the final.
Scorers : Jen Barry 1-3, Jen Cahill 0-4, Grace Culloty 0-3, Elaine Culloty 0-1.

Minor Football
Upcoming fixtures :
Wednesday, July 17. Bride Rovers vs Inch Rovers at Pynes, 7:30pm.
Wednesday, July 31. Carrigtwohill vs Bride Rovers.

U15 Football

We were well beaten in our first U15 summer league fixture in Fermoy last Thursday night. We were missing many of our older players but the team that took part, including many U13 players, played their hearts out and put in a huge effort. All those young players can take great pride in their performance against a strong Fermoy side who were county A champions last year. Two fixtures remain, against Aghada and Glanmire, which will provide much needed match practice during the summer.

U10 Football
Rock Ban 4-5 Bride Rovers 3-2

Our U10 league continued as we played Rock Ban at home last Friday night. Rock Ban were quick to start scoring 3-3 before we settled. Megan played well in goal and all her kick outs were finding her team mates. Caoimhe K and Lauren were tackling at the back and defended well. Caoimhe B and Michelle linked up with Ciara for a goal. Alanna, Jessie and Ruby were chasing everything sending the ball forward while Shauna L was helping in the forward line. Rock Ban scored the next point before a long ball from Shauna H found Caoimhe who passed to Ciara for another goal.

In the second half Rock Ban managed to score 1-1. We introduced Aoife and Ruby n the forward line and both played well. We pushed forward with Caoimhe B scoring 0-1 Abby 0-1 from a free and Ciara scoring another goal. Another great performance well done girls

Panel: Megan Buckley, Caoimhe Kielty, Lauren Kiely, Alanna Broderick, Abby Keating, Jessie O’Leary, Ciara O’Flynn, Shauna Hayes, Ruby Broderick, Michelle Geaney, Caoimhe Barry, Shauna Leddy Duffy, Aoife Pegler, Ruby Broderick
