Bride RoversGAA Club notes & news round-up for the week.

November 8, 2018

Cavanaghs of Fermoy Imokilly/Avondhu JHL Div 1.

Castlemartyr were the visitors to Pairc Na Bhrde for the First Round Game of the 2013 Inter Divisional League. In what was a miserably wet and cold day both teams took the field in deplorable conditions and it was a credit to both sides that they  served up some good hurling in such conditions. We played with the advantage of the wind in the first half but went behind to some early points from play by Castlemartyr. We then got into the game and rattled over three  points on the trot and with a bit of luck could have taken the lead as a shot at goal flew over the bar and  we also  hit the upright twice, from play and from a free. We were in arrears by four points at half-time with the score at 0-8 to 0-4. On the resumption scores were hard to come by for both teams and by the 15th minute we found ourselves seven points down. With the defence playing well and with some changes Stephen Hackett  manufactured a very good goal and he  followed by a similar score soon afterwards to bring us back on  level terms .  Castlemartyr went two points up . We fought valiantly to level the game and a further point from long rang by Cian O Connor left the minimum between the teams. The final score saw us losing by 2-6 to 0-13.

U21 FOOTBALLERS WELL BEATEN.

At Castlelyons on Saturday afternoon last we faced the Lisgoold/Castlemartyr combination team Castlegoold in the Quarter final of the East Cork U21 BFC. In reality this was a non-contest as the pick of two clubs is rarely going to be beaten by a single club side. That’s the way it transpired on the day. Though our lads tried valiantly we were well beaten on a scoreline of 2 15 to 0  2. Even allowing for the strength of the opposition we were missing too many players eligible to play in this grade – the average age of the team was just 18. Just three of the team  were on the age of 21. Defeats like this are of no benefit but hopefully our panel of players will stay together and aim at next years competition.

1. Frank Hogan 2.Sean Cotter 3. Barry Collins 4. Cian Howard 5. Tadhg O’ Sullivan 6.FergusCollins (C) 7. Jamie Buckley 8. David Quinn 9. William Finnegan (0-2) 10. Damien Buckley 11. Cian O’ Connor 12. Gerard Healy 13. Stephen O’ Leary 14. Maurice Dooley 15. Liam O’ Leary

Subs Used: James Barry, Padraig Noonan, Darren Moore, Jack Kearney

Thanks to Daniel Lane, Brendan Walsh and Brennie O Driscoll who were in charge of the team.

Scor Munster Semi Final.

Rehearsals are going on this week and next for the Munster Semi Final of the Scor. It takes place in the Youth Centre Mallow on Saturday week at 7pm. Our Novelty Act ‘The Course’ will compete with Acts from Kerry, Waterford and Clare with two going forward to the Munster Final.

SENIOR HURLING LEAGUE

The 2013 County Senior Hurling league was launched recently and our opening game is on this Saturday March the 16th. We are away to Douglas at 3 o’clock. This is our tenth season in the Senior grade which is simply brilliant. With retirals and emigration this year our panel is depleted but other players will step up to the mark.  Our League opener is a difficult assignment but then there are no ‘easy game’ in the Cork SHL anymore.
