U11 Camogie Round 11
It was a very quiet Saturday morning around the clubhouse. We were the only team playing at home and had the place to ourselves when the other juvenile teams departed to play their away matches. Our game was against Kilmacud Crokes who had lost only 2 matches to date and one of those was to Olaf’s in the first round. We were all set for a tough match, however ,this was not to be as they struggled to field a team. Despite having roughly 60% to 70% possession we did not take advantage of the scoring opportunities presented to us,. Our goalie and full back did not touch the ball in the first half. We had enough of a cushion at the start of the second half to change players around and allow all substitutes participate equally in the game. This did allow Crokes back into the game somewhat but at the same time gave all our girls match practice. ‘Player of the match’ was awarded to Jordan Bent for getting ‘stuck in’ during the second half. The enthusiasm of the girls was fantastic this week as they followed the team mentor up and down the sideline looking for their game and asking questions ‘Where are we in the league ?’,  ‘Can we win the league?’, ‘Will we be playing in Div 1 next season if we win all our remaining matches?’. On this occasion this was another win for this team who in the next few weeks have three big matches ahead of them. We  need to concentrate on speed work and scoring from all angles if we are to win these matches. We  need to leave nothing to chance if we are to emulate the successful U11 football team who won the Div. 2 league at the weekend.  Congratulations to all the girls and their mentors Orna & Orla.on the great win and moving to Div 1 next season. Leading the way for the rest of us to follow! There are seven dual players across both teams who are a very dedicated bunch often playing two matches on a Saturday, something which will have to be examined next season.
