Castlewellan GAC

November 8, 2018

* John O’Neill has taken over the role of Coaching & Development Officer from Miceal Crilly. We wish to thank Miceal for all his hard work in the role over the last number of years. No doubt he will be at hand to support John in his new role for which we wish him every success.

* This is the start of another year. As always we ask for your support as members and coaches within the Club. Over the next few weeks the committee headed by John O’Neill will be getting together to recruit old and new coaches. We ask as many of you as possible to make a commitment no matter how small to help out whether you be a parent or have an interest in doing your bit for the club. Please register your interest with any committee member.

* The annual renewal of club membership fees are now due. It is important to remember that all players must have their membership renewed/insurances paid before they can play again in the new season.

* Calling on all ladies/girls/individuals interested in playing/helping Camogie in The Town. There will be a meeting in the Club tonight Wednesday Night at 7.00pm. We want to gauge the interest in order to give consideration to registering teams in the various leagues this year.

* The Castlewellan GAC Running Club continues their runs on Tuesday and Thursday Night. All runners should meet at the Club at 6.45pm to begin running at 7.00pm. This is open to all club members whether they be hurlers, footballers, camogs or members who just want to go for the run and the fun of it. This will be a great opportunity to supplement any training planned.

* The indoor hurling coaching sessions will continue on Thursday nights in St Malachy’s Primary School in preparation for the upcoming Down Indoor Hurling League. Coaching will start at 6.15 pm for the Primary 2 to Primary 4 boys and the coaching for the Primary 5 boys and older will commence at 7.15pm. Indoor hurling gear is provided. Can we also ask that children do not wear black soled indoor shoes.

* The Down Under 12 indoor Hurling leagues continued on Sunday past in Banbridge. The teams competing with Castlewellan were Ballyvarley, Ballela, Keady and Newry Shamrocks. The lads managing to win one, draw two and lose one. Great performances from Eoin Maginn, Cillian McCay, Eoin King, Ruairi Howell, Miceal Mcveigh, Daire McVeigh, Lorcan Cairns, Shea King, Ruairi Stewart and Fiachra Doyle. Well at least there was diesel in the bus this week even if the driver didn’t turn up for a mid week meeting with the other coaches. He’s a wiley old war horse our driver! The indoor league will continue again on Sunday. Players must bring their hurling stick, gear, water bottle, and snack. Player must meet at the club at 10.45am sharp.
