Catlewellan GAA Weekly Club News

November 8, 2018

* The Annual Dinner Dance will take place on Friday 11 February 2011 when the 1979 – 1982 Championship winning squads will be honoured at the Dinner Dance. Tickets will be on sale in the club on Sunday, Monday and Thursday nights from 8.00pm prior to the Dinner Dance. All members should have their tickets bought and received by 6th February 2011. Please contact Moira Hawkins and Leanne Owens for details.

* The Executive Committee are pleased to announce that Martin Keown is the new Manager of the Town Senior Hurling Team for the coming season. His back up team will include Aodhan MacRurairi, Stephen Croskery, Paddy Doherty, Tracey Burns and Danny McCartan. We wish Martin, his backup team and the entire squad every success in the coming year. Judging by the turnout at the players meeting on Friday Night last the commitment is certainly there to work for the goal of success.

* Our Under 12 hurling squads continued their indoor hurling on Sunday past. The squad who played in Downpatrick won 3 of their games against Warrenpoint, Lower Mourne and Ballygalget and losing one game to Ballycran. In Kilkeel the lads performed well against Mourne Shamrocks, Kilclief and Newry Shamrocks. They are all improving every week and certainly enjoying the regular competition they are getting every Sunday. ‘Sick note’ was unable to be there this week. Hopefully he will pop the pills, dust himself down and make it next week.

* The Executive Committee and the entire club wish a speedy recovery to Kevin Duffin who suffered an arm injury whilst playing in a challenge game for Down. Kevin overcame a series of injuries last year and it was good to see him challenging for a place in the County Team again. No doubt he will have the resilience to overcome this latest setback. It is also good to see Liam Lennon back in training again. He has been working hard of late to improve on his fitness levels. Hopefully it will not be long before we see him back in action also.

* Good to see top referee and our very own Gavin Corrigan back as the man in the middle. Gavin refereed the Antrim v Derry McKenna Cup semi final on Saturday night past in Celtic Park, Derry where the home team came out on top. Hopefully we will continue to see Gavin refereeing at that level during the coming year.

* The annual renewal of club membership fees are now due. The third Registration night will take place on Thursday night – 3rd February 2011 from at 8.00pm in the Club. It is important that all memberships are renewed on those nights. All players must remember that they need to have their membership renewed/insurances paid before they can play again in the new season.

* Camogie for the under 8, under 10 and under 12 age group will continue in St Malachy’s Primary School on Tuesdays from 6.30pm

* The indoor hurling continues on Thursday nights in St Malachy’s Primary School. Coaching will start at 6.15 pm for the Under 8 age group and the coaching for the Under 10 and Under 12 Groups will commence at 7.15pm.
