Clonmore win All-Ireland Div 8 Shield Final in Under 14 Feile in Mayo

FRIDAY 27/6/2014 5.00pm Connacht Centre Ballyhaunis: Clonmore  1-06  Coolaney (Sligo) 2-01
But for an outstanding display by the Coolaney goalkeeper this match would have been over by half time. Clonmore started on the front foot with points from Eoin Byrne (0-1) and Jake Hickey (0-2). Coolaney responded with a goal and a point while their keeper kept them in the game with 3 point blank saves from Jake Hickey, Jordan Tallon and Dylan Doyle. Clonmore upped the tempo and kicked 3 unanswered points from Rory Maguire, Dylan Doyle and Jordan Tallon. Eventually the Coolaney keeper was beaten when Billy Lawlor fired into the top corner of the net to give Clonmore some breathing space but a late goal from Coolaney made for a nervous finish for the Clonmore supporters. A late injury  to Eoin Byrne would keep him out of the next three matches.
 
6.20pm Connacht Centre:  Clonmore 0-4 Thomastown (Kilkenny) 4-02
The scoreline doesn't reflect the closeness of this match. Clonmore dominated posession for large periods but got caught on the counter attack with the Kilkenny side hitting the net 3 times in the 1st half. Clonmore managed 3 points from Rory McKernan, Dan Cashin and Anthony McDonald Kealy. Thomastown added a further goal and a point in the 2nd half before Jake Hickey kicked Clonmores last point of the match.
 
SATURDAY 28/6/2014, 11.00 am Frenchpark:  Clonmore 5-5 Western Gales (Roscommon) 5-6
 A cracking match which saw both sides swap scores constantly. The host side drew 1st blood with 2 points in a row, Clonmore hit back a point Dan Cashin and a goal from Jordan Tallon. Western Gales then hit the back of the net twice while Clonmore answered with 2 goals from Jordan Tallon. A goal and 2 points from the home team finished the half. Clonmore started the 2nd half with 4 points from Billy Lawlor, Dylan Doyle and Jordan Tallon (2). Both sides then swapped scores with Billy Lawlor hitting 2 goals for Clonmore and the host side netting twice and kicking 2 points to make for a frantic finish.
 
4.40pm:  Clonmore 7-03  Islandeady (Mayo)1-01
The only match in the tournament where the Clonmore supporters could relax and enjoy.
Clonore got off to a flying start with 2 goals in the 1st  five minutes from Conor Mooney and Jordan Tallon. Further scores from Jordan (0-1) Jake Hickey (1-0) Robert Bulmer (0-1) Dan Cashin (1-0) while the Mayo side responded with a goal and a point before the break. Clonmore continued the 2nd half where they left off with scores from Billy Lawlor (2-0), Dan Cashin (1-0) and Dylan Doyle (0-1) to finish the evening on a high.    

SUNDAY 29 June, Claremorris: 11.00am Shield Semi Final: Clonmore 3-12 Drumgoon (Cavan) 3-08
A highly competitive semi final which ended up all square at full time started at a blistering pace on a very hot and sunny morning. Both sides cancelling out each others scores in the early stages. A goal and 2 points from Eoin Byrne (back from injury) set the tone for the match. Drumgoon answered with 4 points while Clonmore again hit the net  with goals from Jake Hickey and Jordan Tallon. Drumgoon were not to be out done and got a goal before the break. A point frm Dylan Doyle finished the 1st half to leave it 3-03 to 1-04 to Clonmore.The 2nd half continued to see both sides scoring regular from open play. Drumgoon bagging a goal and 2 points, then Clonmore hitting back with 4 points Eoin Byrne (0-2) Dylan Doyle (0-2).
It looked like Clonmore were heading to the final but a late goal and point from the Cavan boys put the tie to extra time. Drumgoon got the 1st score in extra time but it was also to be there last. Clonmore refused to allow their heads to drop and popped over 5points Jordan Talln (2) Cormac Connolly (1) Jake Hickey (1) and Dylan Doyle (1) to seal a hard fought victory and send to their 1st All Ireland.
 
1.40 pm Connacht Centre Ballyhaunis: All Ireland Shield Final: Clonmore 3-02    Leitrim Gaels 0-8
The Leitrim side started brighter with 2 points from open play. Clonmore, looking like the extra time in the semi final was taking its toll, were struggling to get a foothold in the game. Eventually got on the score sheet with a goal and a point from Eoin Byrne. The Connacht side then responded with 3 points before Eoin Byrne again hit the net. The 2nd  half was more of the same with Leitrim Gaels knocking over 3 points only for Eoin Byrne yet again hitting the back of the net. A missed penalty from Leitrim Gaels and a late point from Dylan Doyle gave Clonmore a famous and hard fought victory. The panel of 21 players were outstanding with a never say die attitude and immense workrate which saw them through 6 matches in 1 weekend.
