SENIORS

Like the Juniors the previous week, the Seniors were denied some silverware in Virginia when two injury time points forced a draw as we played out a 0-10 to 0-10 tie with Mullahoran in the Senior Div 1 League Final. In tough conditions there was little between the sides thorough the game and at the break Mullahoran lead 0-5 to 0-4.

An impressive third quarter saw Mullahoran stretch their lead to 0-8 to 0-6 but not nearly as much as they should have when a number of chances were missed. This kept Kingscourt in the game, and when Joe Dillon nailed a long range score with about 10 minutes remaining this re-energised the Stars who then slotted over some super scores, the best from Barry Tully, to gain a 0-10 to 0-8 lead.

It looked like the trophy was heading Kingscourt way before Mullahoran grinded out a second chance. No details on the replay yet so watch www.kingscourtstars.ie later in the week for updates.

On a related issue, congrats to the 1986/87 Senior Champions who were honoured as the jubilee winning team at last Sunday’s County Final Day. It was great to see so many great clubmen back together and a good day (and perhaps night) was had by all.

JUNIORS

The Juniors will have another go at trying to secure this year’s Junior B title when they face Killygarry in a replay this Saturday evening in Kingspan Breffni Park at 6.30pm. Best of Luck to all the lads involved and please try and make the trip down to support the lads (it’s ok, X Factor is repeated on the Sunday!!) .

GIRLS U-14’S

Hard Luck to the Girl’s U-14 team whose fantastic season came to an abrupt conclusion at the weekend. Looking to secure a league and championship double and finish with a 100% winning record for the year, they came up against some strong weather and an even stronger Gowna side in a wet and windy St Anne’s Park in Bailieboro.

Despite the difficult conditions and opponents the Girls kept going and will learn a lot from this experience. Well done to everyone involved with the side on what has been a super year, in only their second year together.

SCOR

With the on field activities winding down for the year, it’s time for the more cultured wing of the GAA to kick into action. The Club’s Scór Officer, Jim McGovern, has been tirelessly trying to channel the undoubted artistic talent around the parish in recent years.

While Adult Scór starts in Jan/Feb time, the underage events begin next month. So, if you were U-17 at the start of the year, and have an interest in some singing, acting, Irish dancing or quizzes, please contact Jim on 087 2321886 and he will give you more details on the Scór set-up.

HURLING

Underage hurling for East Cavan Gaels is continuing under the watchful eye of Willie Gaughan. Training every Friday 7-8pm indoor at the Community School Hall, Bailieborough and Hurling returns to Kingscourt on Wednesdays for the month of October for under 8 and 10s. All gear is supplied and all are welcome. Contact Willie on 086 1649280 for more details.

CLUB MERCHANDISE

The club merchandise is still available if anyone is looking for some gear as gifts for family, friends or even to treat yourself. The options include replica jerseys (multiple adult sizes now in stock), polo shirts, winter jackets, training tops and rain jackets. VOLUNTEERS

It has been said before that Volunteerism is the cornerstone of the GAA and ensures it remains to the forefront of community life within each parish of the country. Every week, people freely give up their time to ensure that the club continues to thrive and that Gaelic Games remain as popular as ever.

As the season starts to draw to a close, plans start to turn to 2012 and in the case of Kingscourt Stars the club looks to build on the first year of their five year strategic plan. In order to keep the club vibrant, new ideas and new blood are vital, so if you are looking to give something back to your community why not consider joining the club or just becoming a more active member? Whether it’s helping out at underage training, assisting the running of club events or getting involved in one of the five sub committees within the club (Game

Development, PR & Culture, Finance, Youth Development and Facilities) your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Perhaps your child plays underage football or maybe you go to the odd club or county game but have no real involvement but would like to help out. Well, don’t be shy, just tell an existing committee member of your interest the next time you see them and you can get involved in the largest community based organization in the country.

LOTTO

The winning numbers in the Lotto this week were 04, 07, 15 & 26 (Bonus 02). There was no jackpot winner but the Match 3’s (JSOMLD Gargan, Vincy Malone & Sean McCabe) win €70 each. Next week’s jackpot will be €9,200 and the draw will take place on Sunday 9^th October in Freemans.
