SENIORS
The Seniors secured their eight successive victory of the season with a facile 0-17 to 0-4 victory over Redhills in yet another home match down the Park on Friday evening. For pictures and a report, please click here.
Aside from shooting practice, training this week will focus on orienteering as we look to find the Bailieboro Road again. After five consecutive home matches, we have an away match but at least it’s a nice easy one to break us in!!
Yeah, it’s a trip to Cavan Gaels on the Bank Holiday Saturday @ 7pm. (It’s likely that this match may be switched to Friday night but no confirmation yet, so watch this space!). After a wonderful start to the season, this match against the county champions will be a real test as to where we stand so please make every effort to go along and give them some support, it can be a dry run for the following weekend’s trip for the Cavan match….
JUNIORS
A couple of weeks back the Juniors recovered a seemingly lost cause by turning a nine point deficit into a victory. This weekend, Corlough did!!
Mid way through the second half the Stars looked well on course to make it seven points out of eight as they were comfortably clear by 2-12 to 2-5. However, despite making the long journey to O’Raghallaigh Park, the visitors slowly started knocking over the points and a goal with a few minutes remaining saw them hit the front. A shell-shocked home side could not respond and ended up on the wrong side of a 3-11 to 2-12 score line at the end.
Thankfully a chance of redemption comes quickly as the Juniors head to PJ Duke Park in Strsadone where they face Laragh Utd on Saturday @ 4pm.
UNDERAGE
Congrats to all the players and management (especially Joe Dillon & James Farrelly) with the Cavan Minors on their great victory last night against Fermanagh in the quarter-final of the Ulster Minor Championship. They will now play Armagh in the semi-final at the end of June.
The 16s head to Stradone on Tuesday night to face St. Joseph’s in their league semi –final. After losing by three points to St. Joseph’s in the group stage this will be a very tough ask, but a repeat of their second half Castlerahan performance can see them match any side so hopefully they can cause a surprise.
Well done to the U-14’s who claimed the U-14 Shield last week with a three point victory over Cavan Gaels on the 3G pitch at Breffni. A great way to finish the season and for some pictures, please click here.
On a related note, the U-14 Div 1 League Final, between Ramor Utd & Bailieboro, takes place in O’Raghallaigh Park on Thursday evening @ 7pm.
The 12s finish of their season with the super blitz finals day in Breffni Park on Monday 6th June. This should be a great day and with the weather expected to be good (well the exams will be just round the corner) it should be well worth going along to support the side.
The 10’s continued their preparation for the Newry blitz during the week when they entertained a very strong Simonstown outfit during the week. This week sees us make the trip to Knockbride in their final prep run ahead of the following week’s trip to Newry.
The 8s hosted their first blitz of the year on Saturday when Bailieboro, Cootehill & Shercock all visited O’Raghallaigh Park. The weather may have dampened the pitch and the parents (who all hid in the stand :-), but the kids all had a great time and played with great excitement, although there may be a few sneezes in school today….For pictures from the day, please click here. The club’s FACEBOOK page continues to prove popular with club updates regularly uploaded. Details for the regional hurling are also available on East Cavan Hurling’s page. As for the plain old-fashioned website – we continue to be updated with all the results, fixtures, tables etc.. for all the teams and is still well worth a visit.
FANTASY FOOTBALL
The club’s Ulster Championship Fantasy Football competition is well under way with Pat Faulkner proving that whether player, chairman, butcher or manager his talents are seemingly endless. For full listings please click here.
KINGSFEST LORD MAYOR
As part of the build up to the local August Bank Holiday Festival, there is a fundraising/promotional night this Friday evening (4th) in The Wishing Well. This night will see the elecetion of a ‘Lord Mayor’ of the town for the event. Each local organisation are putting forward a representative and the club have spared no expense in flying home our own star of stage & screen, Mr. Diarmuid Murtagh…..
This fun & action packed night will see Diarmuid go head to head with the other candidates in a series of serious & light-hearted questions as well as performing their own party piece, hopefully there will not be a swim suit round!
