A new six week nursery programme for hurling for children born between 2003-06 (ages 4-7) will take place in Jan/Feb 2010. This will be run jointly between Kingscourt Stars, Cavan Hurling Board, Cavan Coaching and Games and Ulster Council. What we need is adults to train as coaches for this age group!

No previous hurling experience is required to coach this group. Just a willingness to learn and have fun while both you and the children learn new skills. The FUNdamentals course delivered by Mickey Glover is a fun way to learn the game. Should there be sufficient interest from adults then a mini blitz league will take place with other clubs in the region that have committed to this programme, Castlerahan, Cuchullains and Bailieborough.

All of these events will take place indoors out of the cold!!! Anyone wishing to get involved then let Pat Faulkner, James Brown or Willie Gaughan know and we will get the ball rolling. We would also hope to have an U-8 team in action in the Spring, again, against local opposition.

It’s not too late to support the club here.  Once you sign up, the club will receive 5% of your Vodafone monthly bill, whether you are bill or prepay.  To sign up costs you or the club nothing and you do not even need to be a member of the club to participate.
Register directly on for just leave your name and number into M&F or Pat or indeed any committee member.  Your support is much appreciated.

This week’s draw (the last of 2009) took place in Clarkes. There was no jackpot winner the four Match 3’s win €50 each.  The winning numbers were 01, 03, 07 & 25  (Bonus 17).  The next draw will take place in Dun A Ri House on Sunday 3rd January and the jackpot will be €5,200.

Recent additions to the website include a feature on Phil Smith following the end of his tenure as County Board Chairman and some pictures from the Seniors recent end of season trip to Dublin.

This week sees the continuation of our best sports clips section which features a point that Cuchullain himself would have been proud off.

Another addition to look out for will be the option of paying your club membership online.  This feature will be available later this month, so keep your eyes peeled onto for all the latest developments.

Kingscourt Stars GAA would like to wish all its members, players & supporters a very happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.  Thanks for all your support throughout the year, however it was given, it was all very appreciated.

The Club AGM takes place on Sunday 10th January in the Club Pavilion and we hope to see everyone there as we start and do it all over again….

To celebrate the U-14’s championship victory earlier this year, a day trip to Dublin has been arranged for Sunday 24th January which will feature a Croke Park Tour, a trip to the National Aquatic Centre and also a prize giving for the medals from the championship success.  The management will contact the players early next month to confirm the exact details.

Congrats to Alan Clarke and both his recent victory in the Battle of Breffni and also his place on the Cavan McKenna Cup squad.
