SENIORS

The circuit training is done, the dreaded bleep test completed, the tour of the North-East for challenge matches finished.  However, it’s all worth it as the season starts here when the Seniors open their ACFL Div 2 campaign on Sunday 1st March at home to Drumalee at 2pm.  After enduring disappointing campaigns in recent years, everyone connected to the club knows the need to start well this year in an attempt to gain some momentum for a promotion push and then a good championship run.

We would ask all club members to show your support to the team by attending the match.  In fact, club member or not, why not come down and cheer on the lads.  It’ll be a lovely day (opening day of the season always is!) so bring the kids, bring the dog, it’ll tire them all out and the fresh air will do you good.

MINORS

The Minors followed up their opening league victory with a narrow 2-8 to 0-13 victory down the park at the weekend.  Credit to the young Stars they were behind for much of the game but kept coming back and eventually snuck a victory with a late fisted goal by Darren McCabe.

This followed a similar pattern in the first half when a superb run and goal from Barry Reilly just before halftime gave the home side a 1-6 to 0-8 lead.  However Mullahoran opened the second half strongly and regained the lead early and look to have secured victory before the Hand of McCabe rose to the occasion!

The matches keep coming thick and fast with a visit to Lavey next up on Saturday afternoon, not sure about the time though.

JUVENILE AGM

The Juvenile AGM has been re-scheduled for Tuesday 24th February at 8pm in the Club Pavilion.  All members are requested to attend.  The Club is planning to form an  Ladies Club with the intention of fielding an U-12 team this year.  This will be discussed at the meeting and we would ask any parent’s who would like to contribute to the running of the club to also attend. New members are most welcome.

SCOR

After a bit of a break, the club re-entered the Scor scene last weekend when they competed in the 2nd county heat in Drumavaddy Hall in Kill.  In the Recital, John Carolan, competing in his first Scor, and drawing the short straw in going on first, gave a great performance and can consider himself unlucky not to have made the final.

In the Quiz, the Brains Trust of Jim McGovern, Pat Byrne & Joe McCarthy secured a top two place and progressed to the county final in Mullahoran this coming Friday night.  County Finals and we are only in February, surely a good omen for the season!!  Best of luck to the lads.

We would also strongly recommend if anyone could make the final to try and go.  Not only to support the lads in the quiz, but with the high level of entertainment on show from the sketches, dancing & recitals, a great night’s entertainment is in store.
