Over the weekend, Barry Reilly was named at full forward on the Ulster Colleges All-Star team.  A huge honour for not only the club, but also for Barry’s family and school (Patrician High School, Carrickmacross).  Nominated by his school, Barry attend two trials involving the best players from all the top secondary schools all over Ulster.

After these trials the selectors (including Sean McCague & Tony Scullion) selected Barry at full forward and he was the only representative from both school and county.  This honour caps of a splendid year for Barry that saw him representing both the County Minors and the Club Seniors for the first time.

This is the 22nd year of these awards and Barry will join a very prestigious list of people in having obtained this honour.  There is an initial pressday today (22nd) to publicise the selection with a Gala Banquet taking place on 3rd April 2009 in the Europa Hotel, Belfast to present the awards.

I’m sure it’s the last thing on the mind’s of the senior panel right at the moment, but the County Board have been quick in announcing draft league fixtures for 2009.  While these have yet to be ratified, they will at least give everybody a flavour of what is still to come.

The year will start on Sunday 1st March with a home tie against Drumalee.  All bar the final round of matches are due to be completed by the second weekend in August, with the final league match, away to Cootehill pencilled in for the opening weekend of October

The Senior Championship is reverting to four groups of four (with two amalgamations to make up the 16).  While the draw has yet to take place, the opening group matches are scheduled between Wed 10th-Sun 14th June, with the remaining two group games to take place during the month of July.

Similarly, the Division 4 fixtures have been announced. The Juniors will also kick of their season with a home tie against Drumalee, although this takes place on Sunday 15th March.  Their final match, also at home, is scheduled for Wednesday 5th August against Knockbride.

The start of the Junior B Championship is pencilled in for Wed 24th June although the draw is yet to take place.

The Minor league should start in a very friendly and love-filled mood as it will open proceedings on Saturday 14th February, although fixtures are not yet to hand.  As mentioned above, a huge congratulations to Barry Reilly on his Ulster Colleges All-Star.

The Club would like to thank everyone involved in the creation, distribution and sales of the club Christmas Card.  This was the first year this has been run and involved a picturesque snap of the main street from the last White Christmas that occurred in the town.  It also feature Christmas greetings in five different languages and was big hit throughout the town.

We would like to thank all the pubs and shops for their assistance in selling them, and in particular all those who pestered their friends, family and work colleagues into purchasing them.  All profits went to the Kingscourt Cancer Fund and a cheque for €300 was presented to them last weekend

The Committee of the club would like to thank all it’s members, players, supporters and sponsors for all their efforts throughout 2008.  Without your help the club would not be able to function as it does.  We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and look forward to 2009 and hope it brings some success to everyone involved.
