MINORS
The Minors lined out agianst St. Joseph’s last Saturday on a miserable day in Cootehill to play the Division 1 League Semi-Final. After tight encounters in the league proper and the championship, a tough battle was expected and that proved the case.
A bright opening by St. Joseph’s saw them 0-2 to 0-0 ahead but Barry Reilly & Philip Tinnelly were to the fore as Kingscourt forged ahead 0-4 to 0-2 with a St. Joseph’s point narrowing the gap just before halftime.
Despite playing against the conditions, Kingscourt started the 2nd half well and Thomas Rodgers finished to the net on 36 minutes. Further points wer exchanged before a further Barry Reilly free left Kingscourt 1-6 to 0-5 clear appraching the final quarter.
However, a combination of playing into the elements and St. Joseph’s greater scoring threats, saw the county finalists clawback the deficit. A 49th minute goal saw them hit the front and further points put them three clear as we approached fulltime.
Credit to our lads, they refused to give up, and some good build up play saw Gerry O’Sullivan unleash a fantastic strike that saw St. Jospeh’s keeper having to scramble low to the bottom corner to pull off an equally fantastic save.
At the end, the best side one, and it was good to see the sporting nature of both sides during and at the end of the match. For the Minors, it was dissappointing end to a season that deserved at least, a final appearance but alas, it was not to be.
Credit to all the management and players for their efforts over the whole of the season
REGIONALS
This Saturday at 7pm, Annalee Gaels play East Cavan in the park in the 2nd round of regional matches. While Kingscourt are part of Sillan Gaels, these sides are in our section and will feature many players who will be eager to catch the eyes of the new Cavan Management team, so it could well be worth popping down
