SHAPING THE FUTURE OF CROTTA GAA CLUB
The Crotta Hurling club has recently been chosen as one of  Kerry clubs to lead the way in putting in place a strategic plan for the development of the club over the next five years.  Two policy facilitators from the Kerry County GAA Board, Maureen Clifford and Stephen O’Sullivan came and visited the club on Thursday 24th March and met members of the club and the clubs steering committee to request that we hold a workshop.
The purpose of the workshop is to give everybody their say in the future direction of the Club, over the next five years. This is a way to get everyone in the Club working in one direction,
Five Key Focus Areas for Discussion at Club Plan Workshop are as follows:
1. Coaching and Games Development (Adult and Underage) coaching, training etc.
2. Facilities and Development- Pitch maintenance / Development etc.
3. Communication/ PR and Cultural – Scor, Website, facebook etc.
4. Club Structures and Administration – attracting Volunteers, use of committees etc.
5. Finance and Fundraising – membership, fundraising etc.
The Club Plan is a practical document written by the Club outlining the main objectives for the club over the next five years. In five years time we want to be able to say that we have the best …..
To achieve our club plan a development workshop was held in St. Theresa’s National school, Kilflynn on Friday Night 8th April, to which we invite all the people of the community and a good cross-section of the club and community attended.
We had two very good facilitator in Maureen Clifford and Stephen O’Sullivan from the Kerry County GAA Board who were very helpful , Crotta Chairman, Dan McCarthy gave a brief history on the club at the start  of the workshop.
The Workshop itself last over two hours. Everyone was separated into tables of 8 and each table was asked to discuss the five different key focus areas writing down the ideas for that table. All the data from the workshop was gathered and giving to the club, the ideas and initiatives will be reviewed by the Club Steering Committee and 5 Focus Groups who were formed to complete the work in the five key areas. The Focus Groups will have a number of meetings to document the important issues raised and to have a general look at how the club could be improved
These are exciting times for our club as Crotta hurling club  are the first club in North Kerry and the first Hurling club in Kerry to have done a workshop. The Crotta Club Plan Launch  will take place in early June 2011

Under 12 Boys Soccer competition was held in Mastergeeha on Sunday last. The Abbeydorney/Killflynn team acquitted themselves very well, beating Castlegregory and Duagh and drawing with Kilcummin in their group games. This meant that Abbeydorney/Kilflynn and Kilcummin were equal on points which resulted in a play-off to see who would qualify for the semi-finals on Friday. However, even though the boys played brilliantly, they eventually lost 2-0. Well done to all concerned and we are delighted that most of these boys are under-age again next year.

KILFLYNN LADY WINS A AUSTRALIAN FOOTBALL  PREMIERSHIP MEDAL:
Congratulations and well done to Valerie Lynch, Tullig, Kilflynn who was a member of the North Cairns A.F.L team who captured  the 2010/2011 Australian Football League Cairns Women’s League Premiers with a 36 point win over Manunda Hawks at Cazalys Stadium on Saturday 19th March . North Cairns 7.9 (51) def Manunda Hawks 2.3 (15). A close tussle for the first half, with the margin just 9 points at half-time, but the Tigers were too strong in the second half to run out comfortable winners
THE celebrations raged long into the night at North Cairns after the Tigers claimed their first AFL Cairns Women’s League premiership in three seasons, unleashing a six-goal blitz in the final term to pull away from their opponents.
The victory was especially satisfying for Tigers player-coach Jo Butland, who was left shattered by her team’s loss to South Cairns in last season’s decider.  Former Crotta Camogie player Valerie is a Daughter of Pat and Kathleen Lynch, Tullig, Kilflynn.  Awesome win for the Club.

Brian O’Connell had once again a superb match and John Quilter also played very well especially in the second half. Our second team were rewarded for a very spirited display by a 3 goal winning margin. Level at half time they put in a brilliant second half to win on the scoreline of 6-01 to 3-01. Scorer in chief here was Daniel Quirke who helped himself to five goals. Declan O’Donoghue also raised a green flag with a fine ground strike and Sean Murnane scored a point from play.
