C. on the night
Mike McCarthy in his address thanked the Munster Council for sponsoring this competition that has been so valuable to Kerry Minor Hurlers. He said that this tournament helped the skill level and preparation of The Minor Hurling team for various inter county Competitions. He thanked all the clubs in Kerry, the Causeway Comprehensive School and Kerry GDA’s Maurice Leahy and John Griffin for all the hard work that has gone into juvenile coaching over the past number of years. He added that the improvements can be seen in their displays on the fields over the past number of years.
Robert Frost the Vice Chairman of The Munster Council, played Minor and u21 hurling with Clare, said he was particularly delighted to be at the launch. He is friends with a lot of Clare hurlers that played with Todd Nolan on railway cup teams and he said they always speak of his skill and prowess in hurling. He said that the Nolan family kept up the long Kerry tradition of playing hurling as Todd, his father and now his nephews played the game. He commended everyone involved in Kerry Hurling for the hard work they put in to promoting the game and he wished the Todd Nolan tournament every success.
Dan McCarthy the chairman of The Crotta Club welcomed everyone to the launch on behalf of the Club and the Nolan family. He said Todd had great hurling skills and loved to extol those skills on the field of play. The Todd Nolan minor tournament was a fitting tribute to a man who gave so much to the game. He said he hoped it would continue as an annual event.
The now annual Todd Nolan Hurling Tournament will take place on Saturday 2nd April 2011. The tournament has been a great success in recent years and has proved invaluable to all squads involved in recent years. Proceedings will get underway at 11,30am in Abbeydorney and Kilmoyley. Kerrys Minor Hurlers will pit themselves against the Munster Counties U17 Hurling Squads. Kerry will be aiming to defend their title that they won in 2010 and was captained by Sean Weir of Crotta . All involved are very grateful for the support of the Munster Council GAA and all other parties who contribute to the running on the tournament.
Also at St Columbas Centre on Friday night 25th March The Lady’s Walk club presented a cup in memory of John O’Connor to the Kerry County Committee. Mike Slattery The Chairman of Lady’s Walk said that John served Lady’s Walk for 46 years. He played with the club, was Treasurer and coached teams for years. He kept the club alive in lean times and often paid the affiliation fees from his own pocket. He gave his life and energy to Lady’s Walk and the club felt that a cup in his memory will in a small way acknowledge the work he did for the GAA during his lifetime. Mike Slattery, Vincent Linnane , John Paul Leahy and other club officers present the Cup to Joe Walsh and Mike McCarthy of Kerry County Committee.
The cup will be presented to The Credit Union Division 2 Hurling league winners from 2011 onwards in memory of John.

CAMOGIE:
The Kerry U16’s were away to Carlow last Sunday in Round 4 of the Championships. Carlow started the better, and were 4 points to no score after ten minutes. Kerry’s Patrice Diggin from placed ball closed the gap to 2 points. Again Carlow showed their experience and their back line held out from some great pressure from Kerry. Half time Carlow 0-6 Kerry 0-2. The Kerry girls started the second half much brighter and began to gain more possession but converting this to scores proved difficult. Carlow added 1-1 in this half with it just not being Kerry’s day and it finished on a score line of Carlow 1-7 Kerry 0-2. Megan Weir, Kilflynn played  at full forward.  Its worth noting Carlow won this grade last year, and it begs the question why they didn’t move up a grade.
Round 5 is away to Kildare next Saturday in the last of the rounds and we wish the team and management a good finish to this campaign.
