Bride Rovers GAA Club Notes.

Junior B Footballers in Semi Final.

Our Junior B Football team advanced to the Semi Final of the East Cork Championship last Thursday night in Dungourney. Under the lights at Jamesy Kelleher Memorial Park the team fashioned a 3  5   to  0  8 win over St. Catherines. It was a strange game really as we dominated the first ten minutes and the last ten minutes and in between we were outplayed for long periods. Luckily for us our defence was in great form and prevented St. Catherines getting in for a goal which could have changed the result.

After St. Catherines opened the scoring from a free Barry Johnson levelled for us from a placed ball. A similar score three minutes later put us  2/1 ahead. We were winning plenty possession at midfield and our forwards began moving very well. A Great passing movement led to a goal from Jason Mannix. Our goal tally was quickly doubled when Barry Johnson converted a penalty. This gave us a 7 point lead and looking very comfortable. Point by point –mainly from frees the Conna/Ballynoe side brought themselves right back into the game. They had 4 points in a row to leave it Bride Rovers 2  2  to   0   5 ahead at the break. The Saints continued where they left off with another point to narrow our lead to 2. Jason Pratt kicked a good point to put us three ahead again  2  3  to 0 6. Scores were hard to come by ion the middle third of the second half.  From a free and from play St. Catherines had two great points to leave us just one point ahead with 7 minutes to go, 2  3 to  0  8. Jason Pratt put us two up again. St. Catherines attacked again and again seeking a winning goal but our backs were in top form. Barry Johnson then converted his second penalty to put us 5 points up. In the last minute of the game Michael Collins kicked over a huge point to leave us winners by 3  5 to  0  8. A good win which puts us in the semi final against the winners of the Midleton/Aghada quarter final.  That game is being played on Tuesday 27th October.

Glory for Ladies.

Well done to the Junior Ladies Football team who captured the Co.  Championship at Carrigtwohill on Friday night. A few weeks back at CIT grounds the girls were lucky to get a draw against St. Vals. On Friday night at Carrig the  team gave a top class display scoring  2  14 to Vals 8 points. Well done to all the panel and the two Johns and Mary who are in charge of the team. The County Cup was presented to a delighted Rovers Captain Arlene Walsh. In her victory speech Arlene made special mention of the supporters and in fairness half the Parish seemed to be in Carrig on Friday night.

Scor Celebrates 40 years.

At the Eire Og GAA Pavilion in Ovens on Saturday a brilliant Concert was held to mark the 40th Anniversary of the founding of Scor.  The GAA Talent competition was started in North Cork in 1969 by Derry Gowen and is still going strong.
