Club Notes 11th October 2009

November 8, 2018

SENIORS:
Our Seniors were well beaten in the O`Rourke Cup Senior League Final last Sunday in Kilbride. Elphin found scores hard to come by throughout the game but with a half time score of 0-1 to 0-07 there was some hope of a comeback. However this soon evaporated with the early dismissal of Colm Rock in the 2nd half followed shortly by Brian Higgins getting his marching orders. The game was up at this stage and the Gaels ran out easy winners tacking on 3 goals despite a couple of excellent saves by Michael Byrne in the Elphin goals.
With a final score of 0-03 to 3-11 it is hard to find any positives but reaching the final at least should be taken as a sign of a good league campaign and if this important game had been played earlier in the year it may have been a more competitive match. As it was it was a month since our last competitive game and Western Gaels were much the sharper team following their County Final appearance and League semi-final last weekend.

Team: M. Byrne, R. Brady, D. Neary, K. Brady, S. Beirne, P. O`Connor, J. Carney, B. Higgins, S. Tiernan, E. Tiernan, B. Rock, B. Cregg, J. Collins, F. Cregg, F. Cregg.

UNDER 21:
The Beirne Electric Sponsored U-21 team make their debut in this Years championship with an away game against Roscommon Gaels in the Hyde @ 4.45 on Saturday. We would encourage all to go and support them.

UNDER 16:
Our U16`s had a great win over Kilmore on Sunday in the Division 3 League Semi-Final in Orchard Park. Final score Elphin 5-16  Kilmore 1-07. They will now face St. Michael`s in the Final.

LADIES:

It was a case of mixed emotions during the past week for the U-14 girls. They put in a great second half performance in the semi final against St. Barry`s to scrape over the line 1-3 to 1-2.
Unfortunately things never got started for them in the final against St Faithleach`s losing by 5-5 to 1-3. They put in a great effort all year and did the club proud. Many thanks to Padraig
Butler who sponsored the bus to and from the match on Saturday.
