SENIORS & JUNIORS

The Seniors & Juniors both played Mullahoran down the Park on Saturday evening. The Seniors had a good win by 1-8 to 0-5. The defence gave very little away and forwards created plenty but just a bit of an off day.

We led 1-5 to 0-1 at HT with the goal following a great run from Alan Clarke to set up Philly Smith who blasted into the top corner from 20 yds out. Just before the break Philly added another super score with a great point but unfortunately injured himself in doing so and now faces a spell on the sidelines.

The 2nd half saw Mullahoran try and get back into things without ever really threatening. No doubt things will be a lot tougher come the championship game on the 24th July. Seniors
next match is the re-arranged game away to Lavey on Wednesday 15th June @ 8pm.

The Juniors suffered their 2nd defeat in a row with a 3-7 to 0-7 loss to Mullahoran in the 2nd match and their next match is part of the double header away to Ramor Utd on Saturday 18th June.

GOOD LUCK

Best of Luck to the Cavan Senior Team in their Ulster Championship opener against Donegal in Kingspan Breffni Park on Sunday 12th June @ 3.30pm.  Hopefully a good support will be there to help them maintain the county’s unbeaten championship run across the grades (and provinces!) in 2011.

Best of Luck also to the Cavan Juniors in their unique Leinster Semi Final Championship match with Kilkenny in Nowlan Park on Wednesday 8th.Finally, Best of Luck also to all the club members who are sitting their Junior & Leaving Certs this week.

THE PITCH

Kingscourt Stars GAA is proud to announce that Shane Connaughton’s acclaimed play “The Pitch” will finish its nationwide tour in Kingscourt. The club have arranged for the Matt Talbot Hall to host this brilliant production on Friday 24th June @ 8.30pm .

The play centres around the lead character (Philly – performed by Shane himself) who lives on a picturesque site up in the mountains in West Cavan that local developers want to build on.  At the same time, the local GAA club are preparing for the County Final which they are looking to win for the first time since the 40’s, when Philly was the star of the team (until he missed the final through suspension).

What unfolds over the following few hours is both humorous and touching and will have you fully engaged throughout. It is highly recommended to anyone who has any interest in either GAA, Irish Culture or life in rural Ireland, both now and over the past half a century.  Tickets are just €10 and are available from Pat Faulkner or any committee member.  A great night is guaranteed and all proceeds will go to the club’s attempts to further increase the Scór involvement in the club. An Oscar winner performing in Kingscourt. Do you want to miss it???

CONGRATULATIONS

The Girl’s U-14s qualified for  the Division Three League Final for the second year in a row with victory over St. Finbarrs last week and played Cornafean last Monday evening in the final. Despite trailing throughout, the Girls kept at it and a late, late goal sealed a dramatic comeback and victory. Well Done to all involved in only the team’s 2nd year in training, a fantastic achievement as evidenced by the joyous scenes on the Main St when the team returned.

BOYS U-12’s

The 12s headed to Newry on Saturday 4th June for the annual Newry Blitz. With over 40 teams from all over the country it really is an “All Ireland” of sorts and a great challenge for the young lads.In a group of five, the young Stars won two and lost two and just missed out on the Last Sixteen round on points differences as they finished joint 2nd.  A great day out though and some great experience with the highlight being the superb comeback victory over Na Fianna of Dublin
